Creating an intra-party fight over a doomed bill is a downside that doesn’t exist already. And not being for M4A doesn’t make someone “against healthcare”.
Even if it somehow passed it’s not going to be implemented before this pandemic is over, and it’s not going to pass, anyway, so, yeah, 2 years is the absolute best you can possibly hope for. What the dems need is a little solidarity and a consistent message if they ever want to pass anything at all.
50-60% of them ran on medicare for all or the public option. If putting it to a vote fractures the party, then good. It needs to be fractured. Being against m4a during a pandemic where 15 million lost their healthcare and another 30 million had no healthcare to start and another 30 million had very little makes them against healthcare. No matter how you spin it.
If the republicans had control of the house and the dems control of the senate, do you think this would stop the house republicans from doing anything? They are ready to battle the supreme court over the election that has no chance in hell of being overturned. Their party isn't being fractured even though some think it is a fool's errand.
The dems knew impeachment would fail. They did it anyway.
You don't know how long the pandemic is going to last. This 2 year plan arguing from a place of defeat. You are defeated and you haven't even began to fight. Which is ironic for a MMA board.
The dems need to actually do what they ran on or it is fake. And if you think they lost seats now under Trump, wait those 2 years and watch them get decimated. Then your 2 year plan becomes a 4 year plan. Then what? If 15 million lost healthcare in 8 months, how many in 96 months? And then you are really only talking about voting on it in 2 years maybe 4 years.
Stagnating and waiting for leadership to get on board. Or for you to get the right committee opponents. Or waiting for the dems to have both the house and senate (which hasn't happened since 2011). Or waiting for a progressive majority. Or waiting to exhale.
Look at AOC. She did everything she was told. She voted for Pelosi, CARES, and the patriot act renewal. She was told not right now for the green new deal and she just accepts it. She was told that there would be progress on the $15 minimum wage and nothing has happened.
You call yourselves progressives but you don't do anything to actually achieve progress.
