It becomes a word game. What level of “distress” is on a spectrum of “pain.” We feel pain as a deterrent to things that are bad for us. What do plants experience? Well something different, but again, it becomes a word game.

No, plants do not have “feelings” like higher mammals. A lot of life forms don’t.

Ah, Natman and the Mir Defense League (not a mocking title--there actually was a group of posters who called themselves that and had it in their sig). Good times. I think the thing with me and Nat was all in fun. And I don't think that the statement you refer to is even a little outrageous. I'd be surprised if it was a minority view (especially since I said, "I'm not sure Mir has the edge there" or something like that--even in a stronger form, it's probably not a surprising view). And Nat said that Mir was the third-best striker in the division, behind Overeem and JDS, which truly was an outrageous claim. I put that in my sig so some of the MDL people tried to get an equivalent one from me.

Anyway, OK, I guess any notable poster is going to upset some people if they express an opinion or a view. But there's nothing like WR-level polarization outside the WR here. While it's impossible not to step on a few toes in the HWs, it's probably impossible for a decent, honest, intelligent poster not to piss off the *majority* of WR posters because you're almost inevitably going to be opposed to the GOP mainstream and Trumpist right, plus the Dore/Greenwald/Pool "left," plus hardcore left culture warriors (basically a non-existent group in the WR, though), and more. So yeah, some polarization in the HWs, but it pales in comparison.

It was pretty well known he and EA were in an online relationship type thing so I'm not betraying any trust there, and she hated me because he and I were pals so if he chased her off the board that's fine by me
