The LA River -what's wrong with people?

Honestly, no it doesn't piss me off. I'm not easily pissoffable.

It's not a river so much as an aqueduct. What pisses me off is that in Sacramento, we have two actual rivers. Yet, the city does nothing to accentuate the positives of either river and/or make them appealing to anyone. Instead, they are just refuges for the homeless. Whereas any other city with these natural resources would have made them into must see tourist areas and made some revenue.

Well,....it was a river with fish and wildlife until about WW2.

now it's a killer ditch to skateboard in

This planet has been overpopulated for a very long time.

What does that mean, though?

We're all alive and the planet can feed many, many times the current population.

Honestly the whole concrete jungle thing seems kinda awesome to me

Did you try thinking about it?

Who told you the planet can feed many many times the population? Did you just make this up

The only reason we can feed as many people as we do now is because of industrial farming and advances in both genetic engineering and potent fertilizers which increase yield. It has nothing to do with land mass

But of course were assuming that our current population is being fed and starvation doesn't exist right? We're not even adequately feeding our current population

But this isn't even the most salient issue,it's how We live in general that's the problem

We commodify resources to stimulate temporary economic activity ,introduce those resources to garbage dumps once we are through with them ,and then continue this process and call it prosperity

This is the model of modern civilization ,it cannot be sustained, and the
More people we make the worse it gets

No one should have to explain this to you ,it is plain to see ,self evident

If you look at the impact we have now with pollution etc -we are way out of balance as it is -we are way past overpopulated.

without the industrialization of grains, the earth could not feed this population and the first major sustained breadbasket drought in the US or Russia will spell panic and bring to this to full realization in the public.

That's better than the Gowanus Canal;

Honey Honey - LA river

great song

Certainly can be worse ****inserts pic from India here****.....I just expect different in the Western world where environmental concerns have a lobby.

Yeah, "it could be worse" is never the answer (and yet it's always the first one).

As for the western world, it boils down to interest (how many and who) versus expense.

Seoul had a creek running through the centre of the city that they ruined and built a highway over top of when South Korea modernized.

They removed the highway to improve the flow of traffic in the city and restored the creek to this:

Cost a ridiculous amount of money though.
