Crime The kid was out riding his bike and gets killed in a dog attack.

Just horrible and as a Cane Corso owner myself, I feel an additional wrath towards the owner and possibly the breeder.

It is the best dog I have ever had, I can take it with me everywhere, restaurants, friends.

But after he became sexually mature, I never take him to the dog park. He works well with 99% of the dogs, but sometimes another male dog triggers or attack him…and believe me when I say, it isn’t easy to break up two male Cane Corso when 280 lbs are going Don Frye vs Takayama …which me and another owner did once.

A neighbour has a Cane Corso. We're not friends, but I know him to say hullo to if we pass in the street.

As much as I like dogs, I never try to pet his Cane Corso. I don't even make eye contact with it. He appears to have it well trained and under control, but I'm not taking any chances with a breed who's bite strength averages 700 PSI.
It's actually not a bad idea to socialize with it if the owner allows it. It helps the dog recognize not everyone is an enemy but you specifically if you ever run into it loose on the street.

This thread is like reading a headline that has "suicide bombing" in the title on the front page, then opening up the newspaper to read the article, and discover to your astonishment it wasn't a Muslim that did it.
I remember someone making a thread with a title something like "Dog of Peace Kills it's Owner" and I immediately thought "What the fuck a Labrador killed it's owner?".

Cane Corsos are basically 150+ pound Pitbull/Mastiff hybrids.

They're actually descended from Roman war dogs but that's a good description.

My neighbor has a Corso, I'm actually scared of the dog because its 160lbs, its actually generally nice but it's so huge I get scared to be around it, I actually went over to it one time to greet it but he has another dog a daschund, as I approached it the weiner dog leapt toward me in an aggressive manner and the Corso followed out of nowhere good thing I was still a foot away or might have been bit by it. Then about I week later I was with it in the elevator and she just began sniffing me like I was no threat.

Little dog-big dog is a bad combo.

Little dogs are often reactive and big dogs will act on that when otherwise they would be unafraid.

You probably want to control your fear, since animals can sense your discomfort, but next time you get a chance give it a good pet. It's better that it consider you a friend rather than lunch if you ever run into it alone.

I want a cane corso but size is an issue as I'm soon to have 2 kids. I worry about my doberman but so far so good, but the kid chases the dog around a lot.

Packs are a problem. 1 dog isn't as likely to attack as a pack.

Poor boy, RIP. His dad must be fighting every urge to put bullets in the owner's head. And I would have a hard time blaming him.

Should just straight up be legal to kill someone if they are responsible for the death of your child. I can't imagine just living with it knowing where to find that person.

Shes actually a nice dog most of the i just kinda feel uneasy around her due to the size, there are other large dogs in my place like a golden retriever and i dont feel the same way. Here she is when shes not so intimidating dressed as maleficent, my dogs only a shih tzu haha

Cane Corsos are cool looking dogs but can be really mean an aggressive depending how they were brought up . They are perhaps the best of personal gaurd dogs as they are fiercely loyal and protective. Its a breed you get as a puppy - not a rescue.

Yeah I admire the look but they scare the shit out of me, too.

Dogs like this should be banned.

Yep, and pitbulls, and other breeds with high aggression statistics... either hospital visits with life-threatening injuries or deaths.

I had a pitbull in highschool.
I love the breed.
However the statistics that 70% of maulings and deaths are by a pitbull-breed are undeniable.

But 'banned' without specificity implies the class of breed should be genocided.
I have a wiser approach.

All aggressive dog breeds living within major metropolitan areas must have a license (40-hour safety class & annual fees), insurance (monthly fee), home inspection for living conditions of the dog, and no selling of puppies within city limits without the buyer being licensed to own one.

That's just off the top of my head, so their owners have to deal with that inconvenience or move out of the city.

And wear muzzles when they are out.

Cane Corso arent pits. They are possibly along with Kangal the best gaurd dogs ever created . They just arent really traditional pets.. they are working dogs an both very good at job. If you want a giant dog as a pet best off getting ST Bernard that's maybe the friendliest dog ever despite looking more bear than dog. In sll cases getting h a giant dog you better be able to tolerate drool.

Not to nitpick but your article does not say the kid is dead....yet.

"The young victim was flown to hospital in Halifax with life-threatening injuries, police added."
Sorry Lsa, I had posted before I had found an official report. 13 years old, riding a bike and then just gone. I know if there's pics around, I won't look.

Dobermans have a bad rep as a family pet. Ours is hilarious, they have crazy personalities. In a family environment the doberman will still have it's favourite family member, I hope it's you, lol.
