The Jordan Peterson Thread - V2 -

Because by and large, identity politics are used far more on the left than the right. The left has adopted identity politics as their standard mode of operations whereas on the right, white identity is only used on the far right (the alt right, the ethno nationalists). So in this way, Peterson's anti identity politics rhetoric is far more damaging to the left than the right.

People on the left want individuals to be treated as individuals no matter how they choose to self identify. That's something even Peterson notes himself as a trait that makes him left leaning.

It's the right who enjoys dividing people into groups and treating people differently based on the right's assigned group identifiers.

I thought you were going to college. How the fuck do your arguments keep getting worse?

Baffling.
Baffling how you can never explain your logic and have a formal discussion and resort to spamming gifs instead.

Im going to presume your argument is as follows:
BLM isn't an identity movement, despite their focus on their skin color, and many of their members regularly calling for the extermination of white people along with posting and advocating for numerous other racist positions.

People on the left want individuals to be treated as individuals no matter how they choose to self identify. That's something even Peterson notes himself as a trait that makes him left leaning.

It's the right who enjoys dividing people into groups and treating people differently based on the right's assigned group identifiers.
That is patently false. Affirmative action proves this very point. This was a liberal idea based on groups associated with ethnic heritage.

I'm trying to wrap my head around your first paragraph but I get it now: you have no idea what trait openness is. You think he means "openness" as in the laymen version of the word. Get learned nerd, that's not what it means.

Ahahahahahaah "the left wants individuals to be treated as individuals" by "Rational Poster" ahahahahahahhahahahaha.

How in the fuck do people arrive at these sorts of demonstrably false conclusions and opinions?

Affirmative action "individuals treated as individuals"
Reverse affirmative action, handicapping Asian SAT scores on college admissions "individuals treated as individuals"
White opinions aren't worth as much because of white privilege, "individuals treated as individuals".
One member of the trans community can speak on behalf of the entire trans community. One black person speaks on behalf of the entire black community. One woman can speak on behalf of all women everywhere = "individuals treated as individuals"

ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

"t's the right who enjoys dividing people into groups and treating people differently based on the right's assigned group identifiers."

ahahahahahahahahhahahahahahhahaha

it's like this dude lives in an upside down version of our world and we're experiencing separate realities

Affirmative action was put in place to counter discriminatory hiring practices in the 60s when everyone prejudged.

Oh, I see you're confusing random college kids opinions with the entirety of the left and the grown up, corporate workplace and some relic executive order.

I'm not sure what you're on about actually.

I was referring to Peterson's own critique on his political leanings and his preference of individualism over collectivism and how individualism is a left leaning preference.

Those 'random college kids' are just parroting what they are being trained to think by their adopted ideology. That adopted ideology is much larger and more pervasive being pushed institutionally. Basically they are just a symptom, and a tip of the ice berg.

The ideology in question divides people into race, gender, and sexuality explicitly.

Racial identity groups, Feminist groups, LGBT groups, etc are pushed by the far left as basically tribal groups which are based on collective identity.

It doesn't divide anyone.

People choose what they want to be and the left accepts their choice.

The right's unwillingness recognize or accept a person's choice is what creates the divisions.

By random college kids, do you mean, MSNBC, Vox, BuzzFeed, MTV, and politicians themselves?

"just a few college kids"

Wake up and smell the roses dude, you're delusional and totally in denial.

I'm just not hysterical about things that don't bother anything or anyone.

It’s funny that the argument is going back and forth essentially about which side generalizes more while generalizing the other side as using generalizations.

They clearly do bother many people. They clearly ARE pushing race and gender based hatred, which is harmful. That's why these videos get removed from youtube (in MTVs case) and the others are heavily downvoted with vitriolic comments. Your quote here is categorically not true.

Affirmative action was put in place to counter discriminatory hiring practices in the 60s when everyone prejudged.
And that's fine, but it's irrelevant. It is a system that judges people based on group identity. All protected classes are 100% demonstrations of people being judged by their group identity instead of their individual merit. That is just a fact. It's fine, both sides tend to do this to certain extents in different ways. But liberals certainly not judge people based on their individual merit.

The right's unwillingness recognize or accept a person's choice is what creates the divisions.

It carves the population up into tribal groups competing based on their group identity, as defined by the ideologues and trained into them in the institutions.

Saying it doesn't divide anyone is saying that identity politics doesn't divide anyone. Now, I wouldn't even say that identity politics is inherently bad (it really depends) but the left is most definitely pushing identity politics and it's ideologically driven.

So can I judge republicans today based on policy 70 years ago too?

If you would just accept people for their differences the divisions wouldn't be so polarizing and people wouldn't get so radical about it.
