the heavy's respect the hands of Askren

seriously though it all goes back to beating Andy and Andy beating the human poptart junior
some of the most incredible record padding that has been done in recent times

It was a fairly impressive fake transfer of credibility that ultimately only involved him beating a nearly 50-year-old man.

i don't know why anyone would put any stock into DC's opinion on boxing. i imagine a bunch of regulars on this board have far better educated opinions.

Cormier was in the Summer Olympics for Wrestling. Therefore, lots of users believe his opinions when it comes to Boxing fights.

SMH.

exactly an old man with a win over a guy who gave less fucks and did more coke and po tarts before the fight than many thought humanly possible

paul is athletic, he has the resources, he's dedicated, he has quality training... so he's pretty good for a guy with only a couple of fights. he's good when compared to regular people.

but if you thought jake paul was good in the sense that he could compete at a high level in boxing, then you simply had no clue about boxing.

i mean seriously, who the fuck is impressed with someone beating askren in a boxing match?
You are absolutely right. DC's opinion should not be trusted. That's why I like reading this forum, because here I can learn a lot of useful information. Even if I rarely post (so as not to bore you)

Up next, I need to hear Larry Holmes give an opinion on Bo Nickal's MMA grappling.

Edit* Paul is a limited fighter he's never been anything more than that...most fighters without extensive am. careers are limited fighters when they have under 10 matches.

why didn't he figure that out when he fought Anderson? all Jake did that entire fight is back up, get trapped in the corners and ropes and then look down at the ground as he ducked and spam overhand rights

Lol. This is why I love the boxing forum. You guys pretty much nailed it. I don't think it is impossible for Jake to keep evolving, but it does seem that he has reached a plateau.

He dropped Tommy and looked good.

Tommy has been in a boxing atmosphere for a lot longer.

You guys were acting like he'd beat elite level boxers and then he got exposed by a bottom tier scrub known as Tommy Fury, and one of you actually thought he could fight for a world title in the future hahahahaha moronic.

Did I ever say he'd beat an elite boxer?

Show me saying that.

With the search function broken? Yeah, no thanks. I was there when you and John the pleb were acting like Paul vs Fury was a battle for the ages, and then Paul lost to Fury and you two went radio silent.

MMA guys think they can get in the ring with boxers so MMA commentators think they can analyze boxing.

Ultimately, I think MMA people think boxing is essentially a subset of MMA. Which to be fair, it superficially is. But not really. I have no problem with Teddy Atlas talking about an MMA fight nor about Cormier talking about boxing. But you gotta remember they're only visitors in a slightly foreign land and weigh it appropriately.

True, but he sucks less than Nate at boxing and Nate has literally zero head movement and defence. And is hit constantly. That's his biggest claim to fame is how much damage he takes... which is just dumb asf.

If Conor the midget could knock him down with jabs... I predict Jake will stop him, with that overhand 1 weapon he has.

Some MMA commentators do a decent job at analyzing boxing. Certain fighters as well, like Dan Hardy and Dominick Cruz, are also fairly knowledgeable. Hardy in particular has a good eye for the sport. That said, I wouldn't say Cormier is among them. Chael's analytical insight is even worse. He oversimplifies everything and has even outright dismissed the importance of proper footwork in fights. The problem is that even if they do understand what they're watching they're still largely viewing it through an MMA lens.

The level of boxing in MMA is leagues below that of high level amateur boxing nevermind professional. Elite kickboxers tend to have better hands than even the best strikers in MMA. All of the other disciplines in MMA have continued to evolve except for boxing. Boxing in MMA is merely crude hand fighting only now it's become slightly more polished than it was a decade ago. There's been very little progress on that front.

Good fighters warming up on Nate
