The Irish have taken over!

Yeah Irish only have one fighter, but there are a lot of Brazilians on this card. They should be in Vegas representing their country.

1-0 Irish

I wasn't disrespecting ireland or taking shit seriously. Did u read what I posted?

not really, Im high as fuck right now lol

also disrespect the Irish all you want, no skin off my back lol:cool:

Wth have the irish taken over. Can't even take over "Ireland"

Looks to me you are the one taking things seriously to the point you are butthurt over a few setences on sherdog. Get over it. I was presenting another interpretation than "nationalism in sports is just awesome." If it takes someone that is incredibly loosely associated with you (coming from the same island) for you to get up for a sport, I don't think you are a "better" fan by any stretch of the imagination. I'm not saying the Irish fans are good or bad; nothing is ever that simple and I'm sure it's a mixed bag to some extent. Some of those guys were being funny and some of them were pretty boorish. Loving Conor just because he waves a certain flag or drapes it over his shoulders around is points in nobody's favor, though.

yeah, its posts like this that make me remember why we argue lol

you are so far up your own arse its unbearable lol

yeah you kinda did

also I was clearly joking:rolleyes:

I said don't be proud of them. That's not equivalent to "you are proud of them." Whether you want to admit pride or not is irrelevant. You said, "you's just aint a patch on the Irish" so you were giving them some sort of credit and I put it in another light. Get over it already.

Us Irish like to get pissed and have a party, look at our football team we bring the most and loudest fans to any tournament we qualify for even though we are very small nation compared to most, we like to have a party any excuse for one .

You seem to take things very seriously. Hero worship? Did that crowd of people look like some kind of cult following to you? They were a bunch of people dressed in silly Christmas jumpers getting drunk and singing songs. It's called having fun and if you're sitting behind your computer psycho-analysing those people to conclude that they don't have much going for them, maybe you should re-evaluate your situation. How often do you fly to the opposite side of the world to get drunk and sing songs?

Conor McGregor is the epitome of a cult of personality. Just look around Sherdog. In the last 15 years I have never....ever....seen such bizarre behavior from a fan base. "Conor Bless" has become synonymous with that cult of personality. He was elevated to deity before he ever won a single title. Its been strange to watch to say the least. Fedor, Silva, and GSP had huge fan bases that raved about their talents but they were well established champions at that time. McGregor has been elevated to god status and future multiple weight class champion before he's ever even won a title fight.

I don't disagree with you if you're talking about Sherdog. The post I replied to wasn't talking about Sherdog.

Really so you are telling me you irish are just a bunch of alacholics, and fail at sports. Man I am shocked.

And you actually think you're funny.

as long as Im entertained thats all that matters really, you think Im posting to make you or other people laugh? ahaha whatever floats your boat

I couldnt honestly care less what sherdoggers think about me lol, on the other hand it seems to really bother you .... whats up with that shit?

No, it was talking about the guys that wanted to insert Katie Taylor into the discussion as an excuse to take associate themselves with greatness just because they come from the same country. That's the outlook I mean. And don't act like the Irish fans don't act out in real life what goes on here. I'm not even mad at them about it, but it's not something to brag about.

Then apply that logic to my posting. And whether you care about what others think or not, you are obviously trying to be funny so my point still stands.

Oh the Irish, dated a few in my time. Lots of passion and they can drink. They come by this honestly so what's there not to like? Great music, food, and I'm for Awesome Aldo!! . Won't bother me though if Conor beats him, seriously may the best man win!!! But gotta bet on Aldo.

you have no point lol, unless its pointing out I like to have a laugh(Id call it banter) when I post most of the time. well excellent detective work Sherlock lol, but what does that matter?

the fact it seems to bother you actually makes me want to do it more often

It wasn't your post that I replied to.

People from Ireland travel to the Olympics to cheer on Katie Taylor like they do McGregor. Ireland isn't some massive country like Russia, all our sports stars are pretty much local. It's no surprise that people want to support their local athletes, if they have success then it promotes sport and does good for the community. Katie Taylor has done a lot of good in that regard, as has McGregor. People want to get their kids into sports, and they want sports to grow in their communities so that they can have the means to participate either as spectators or as competitors.

A good example of this from my own perspective is that since McGregor and a few other Irish fighters have had success in the UFC, there's a much larger number of BJJ gyms around and many more local MMA events happening because people are exposed to the sport.

It's quite a cynical view you hold that such a large amount of people have some kind of political ideology of "nationalism" as you call it, or want to live vicariously through others.
