Fedor still had plenty of power, speed, strength, and grappling late into his career, on top of the experience advantage of 40 fights and 20 years he had on the mental and tactical sides, to continue to be relatively successful. He never suddenly lost his hand speed or power like many try and pretend to excuse his losses “post prime”. There was ZERO reason to be trying to get into do or die gun fights every fight which OF COURSE led to unnecessary losses, just like they could’ve during his prime.

If you fight like a young idiot without being young you’ll probably take unnecessary losses. Guys like Overeem, Arlovski, and Miller realized this and actually used their experience to slow things down and try and bring the fights to their levels they could excel at instead of fighting where they couldn’t.
