Social The Fox News Effect

good post, they avoided it.

Figured they would.

"Fox News viewers are so dumb man, they believe everything they want to believe without critical thought dude"

"What's that? A study that says the people who have different political views than me are dumb? Sweet!! Who did the study? What were the controls and sample size? Who cares dude it's definitely true! LOL FAUX NEWS DUMMIES"

No self awareness.

I think this explains why so many conservatives still believe

Really going to bring up Fox News in the age of Mainstream media propaganda hitting historic highs with the majority of people no longer trusting it due to the many lies? And do this weeks after a media frenzy over an edited 1 minute video of a young boy standing and smiling leading to 1000s of death threats and even more calls to destroy that CHILDS life?

For STANDING and SMILING...just to look virtuous by "protecting" the "minority" adult.

Maddow is annoying but 100 % more reliable than fox.

I didn't say Maddow was that bad. I said Joy Reid and Sharpton are pure garbage. The fact they both have shows, especially Joy with her homophobic social media posts and her lies about being hacked, shows how much credibility MSNBC has overall.

MSNBC and CNN viewers are better informed than Fox News viewers and that is what this thread and article is about, bothside-ism doesn't apply here.
So, you think you’re getting the facts?

That’s laughable.

I have to say that I find most American media to be disappointing. I have a lot of family members that watch only Fox and they are definitely less informed/misinformed on most issues. Anecdotal, but just my observations. That being said, I find that while CNN/MSNBC might provide more information, they frame stuff in such a way that their opinion is presented as fact. E.g. Trump pulling out of Syria was universally reported as something terrible. No discussion on what we could accomplish by staying there...just "Russia, Iran, bad bad".

Overall, I'd say the best way to stay informed is to read and confirm with multiple sources. Read multiple books on political issues by experts in the field that interest you.

Wait... the test is 12 questions? That's pretty unscientific

What do you want to do? Ban Fox news? Why don't you call out CNN/MSNBC, pretty much every other channel other than Fox for covering Trump 24/7? That's pretty much all they talk about. Fox covers more goings on around the country.
As long as they put, "NOT PROMISED TO BE FACTUAL OR ACCURATE, FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY" scrolling at the bottom of the screen at all times, I'm all for their continued existence.

A study was done that shows Fox viewers are less informed than people who watch no news at all.

So tell me how CNN is unbiased. I'm all ears.

You must have missed the entire next 3 days when CNN talked constantly about how they misrepresented the story

You should have that as sig yourself.

There was a chart someone once posted (purporting to be unbiased) that showed of the 3 networks, Faux News, MSNBC, and CNN, the reliability of their information was pretty much in that order, from worst to best. But that's relative to each other. I think there is broad agreement even around here that there are better sources for news than any of them, although there may be disagreement about which ones. I would personally recommend CBC and NPR but I know there are many who have low opinions of one or the other.

I would like to see a different survey to find out how many people use more than one source for news. I have no proof, but I would be willing to bet that Faux News viewers would also use the fewest sources for news, not including social media, but I could also see how someone who considers their source super-reliable, e.g. NPR, might not stray.

NPR is biased as hell these days. Bloomberg and POTUS are the only reliable stations imo. The best information is sadly still in found in print. WaPo, New Yorker, WaTimes, etc. Just have to avoid the editorials.

It's about how less informed informed Fox News viewers are compared to consumers of other news sources and I still fail to see how asking who controls congress is biased.

Tribalistic fool because Fox News viewers can't answer the question who controls congress? Me being a tribalistic fool is why Fox News viewers can't find South Carolina on a map? I am a tribalistic fool because Fox News viewers scored the lowest in general knowledge and current events out of 30 popular news sources? I guess Me being a tribalistic fool is why so many Fox News viewers believe the Obama birther nonsense?

The thing is now ignorance and "different political views" are one and the same. Most of those sources are conservative anyway including CNN and MSNBC now. Conservatives don't get this because they see them bashing Trump and they associate anti Trump consipacy's with liberal but basically everything is some degree of economically center right. Fox is unique mainly in style and in social conservatism rather than substantive differences with "fake news"(of course Fox, CNN and MSNBC are all fake news).

Losing to twitter sucks though given the character limit.
