I really liked this movie but was kind of confused about the engineers. This video breaks everything down and goes over the dialog that is in the script and left out of the movie, but I'll provide some cliffs.

Cliffs:

The Engineer's are a product of a Deacon alien and worshiped it as their lord.

The Engineer's which could live for 100's of thousands of years were starting to die out.

They were trying to plant seeds by having one per planet drink the deacons gold like blood and disintegrate itself into DNA particles onto the planet (Beginning scene in the movie)

The awakened Engineer in the movie explained that we were created in there imagine and because we were so barbaric towards each other they decided to destroy the earth.

But they gave us one chance as they brought one man back to try give him the knowledge of the perfect Eden just like how their society works.

But they decided to kill that man when he came back and the world grew more barbaric and violent, so they decided to destroy all of those they created, because they saw it as a failed attempt to spread their likeness.

So the whole thing is basically a sci-fi version of Jesus and the Bible

I don't know how much truth there is to it, but I thought this comment was pretty funny from the YouTube comment section:D

"Or maybe “Hollywood” didn’t like the idea of Jesus as the murdered savior of humanities creators for some, weird, completely unknown reason. Hollywood. Totally unknown reason why that would rub them the wrong way."

I hated Prometheus first time I watched it, but have really grown fond of it in places.
Not a great movie but it does add to the legend, unlike Covenant which was fucking wank throughout.

How can their alien look worse than the original did 40 odd years earlier? Fuck sake just use the same one instead of that stoopid cgi trash, awful movie

promethius sucked

Just joking. I've heard this from several different people. I watched this movie when it came out on HBO and went into it not knowing it was supposed to have any connection to Aliens. I think people were expecting more as it wasn't really an Aliens moive.

I was never really a huge fan of the Alien Movies though. I watched them as a kid and thought they were cool, but I don't really remember too much about them. I've been thinking about revisiting them though as it's 25 plus years since I've seen them.

I caught Alien in a cinema last year, still a great movie. Aliens will always be one of the great action movies, but I'll never get Alien 3, gets so much love but does nothing for me

I think Alien 3 mostly benefits from the "Predator 2 effect." And now the Star Wars prequels. What came after was just so awful that it's easy to look back fondly on them. Same thing has happened for Terminator: Salvation. It's like...at least it wasn't Genisys...

Im of the idea that the Space Jokey should have never been explained, much more interesting to have the creature stay a mystery.

Thanks op, I loved this movie, it was sci-fi porn for the first 3/4. It was a bit silly at the end, but I was fascinated by the engineers. It's too bad they dumbed the film down. The original script sounds much better. They just made it vague, and worse, would love to hear why Ridley did this.

I really wanted the follow up to build on the builders/engineers, and follow Dr Shaw (she's HAF) and David. Covenant was such a let down. Shaw could have been the next Ripley. She's a badass, and not in the Hollyweird 110 lbs whamen beating up dozens of large men type.

I actually feel like that about Salvation, like it's the only OK movie after 1 & 2. Watchable at least

Probably best not explained, but certainly not in this way. Not only is it the least interesting thing imaginable for that creature to turn out to be, but it also doesn't even make sense. There is absolutely no fucking way the biomechanoid Space Jockey fused to its seat from the first movie was a guy in a suit.

Yep, it's the best of the four post-T2 movies. But I still don't really like it. It just doesn't shit all over anything, which is about as good as it gets after the second film, and it isn't yet another "protector sent back from the future" chase movie.

I really liked the movie, I’ve already watched all the explanation Vids.
First image looks like Yoel painted white.

Covenant accomplished one thing.....it made the world appreciate Prometheus much more. Covenant somehow removed the best aspects of Alien and Prometheus into one film.

Prometheus could have been excellent with some minor cast changes, editing and rewriting. Recast the hapless idiots like Milburn /Fifield and low hanging fruit like the worm petting scene. Edit the Vickers running away from the falling ship scene so it doesn't look like she's running the long way to escape in a Bugs Bunny cartoon. Have the cast leave their fucking helmets on all times even if the atmosphere looks good. The other issue was this movie went too hard to coverup it was an Alien prequel. When it was first announced everyone said it was an Alien prequel and then Scott kept maintaining this had nothing to do with Alien or LV426 it turns out he was lying through his teeth to the point that the script was originally called Alien Engineers and the planet was LV426.

Practical effects and how Ridley Scott carefully used composition and lighting to build suspense. Alien is a masterclass in cinematography.

That really makes no sense regarding the origin of the deacon and the engineers. It may have been the case at one point but they changed things a lot during production.

The lineage of the deacon in the final films was first Dr. Holloway got infected, then impregnanted Dr. Shaw, who performed caesariean on herself giving birth to a facehugger type alien, which grew and impregnated an engineer which then gave birth to the deacon.

I agree, all those plot points were just too stupid. Why send bottom of the barrel on such an important mission? Why pat an alien creature? Why take a helmet off in an alien atmosphere? Take a step to the left for Christ’s sake!

I always liked it long before anything came after. I'm probably in the minority but I think it's very underrated because the first one is so good. I liked the genre switch too

Same. The movie would probably go up one or two whole points for me if the Terminators in it weren't Throwinators. It takes me out of the movie to the point of almost ruining the whole thing. Change that and the throwbacks to T2 at the end (like the T-800 rising out of the molten metal which should've killed it IMO) and I'd call it flawed but solid instead of okay.

Prometheus is bad. Scotts worst film imo. Might be missing something from him but that one is dogshit.

the first 15-20 mins of Prometheus was possible the best part of any Alien movie we ever saw. Then it wasnt

Prometheus is the textbook definition of convoluted. It tried to be interesting but fails spectacularly in multiple ways. It still doesn't make sense with those cliffs.

I'm still in disbelief at how dumb and nonsensical some of the character's actions are, like the scientist guy going from terrified to wanting to snuggle the alien penis. One of the many things that made absolutely no sense

I liked Prometheus when it first came out. It was the type of movie that did not hold your hand the whole way. It also presented a lot of interesting possibilities for the future of the franchise.

Too bad the characters did stupid shit. It was a huge mistake having Shaw save and repair the homocidal robot just so that he could kill her in between movies. After that reveal In Covenant, I finally realized these new Alien movies are trash.
