this is something I notice in my town and it gets me slightly melancholic. When I was young there would be ton of these martial arts dojos or studios where senseis would teach the basic fundamentals of striking, in various discipline, alone with philosophical basis for fighting.

Now after MMA explosion we just have thse gyms that teach MMA but really is more like a cross fit type of gym where the emphasis is less on technique but more on cardio etc

Steve Thompson is one of the last breeds, we won't see many future fighter with a dedicated striking base anymore

As long as krav maga places disappear i am happy!

anyone that makes you refer to them as "sensei" is a total douche

WAR MMA gyms lol

very few boxing gyms nowdays too

the problem with MMA gym is usually the instructors aren't actually experts in any discipline. You wind up being jacks of all tarde and master of none, like a Rory McDonald

nothing wrong with that, if someone wants to excel and try to become pro they can find another gym. I know a kid I grew up wrestling with who runs a local MMA gym, has both male and female fighters competing in local mma circuits and BJJ tourneys as well as classes for little kids and people just looking to get some cardio/basics. Still 1000x better than a mcdojo or boxercise or any type of class you can get at a gold's style gym

THE ONLY DOJOS IN MY NECK OF THE WOODS CATER TO YOUNGSTERS.

Maybe in your area. I have plenty of TMA gyms in mine that seem to do well enough.

Dating a karateka doesn't sound sexy. On the other hand, a lot of girls find the idea of dating a cagefighter intriguing. Guys are going to gravitate to an MMA gym. Is normal.

The cult mentality of the Krav gyms is insane. I had a guy tell me that BJJ wasn't preparing me properly because we never roll on concrete in training so we couldn't do it live. He also stated that his striking was on par with a someone that has been boxing for years because they only train effective strikes and defensive techniques. I was too angry for a Forest Whitaker eye.5067391.jpg
