The Death of CDs

It was bound to happen. We will miss those days when we had the satisfaction of actually owning a physical copy of something and could play it whenever we wanted.

I stil listen to them. It's different. It's nice to have it the way it was intended, and with the lyrics and art. Music used to be so much more lol.. But rap is shallow and pretty soulless, so it all just followed that becoming the main music.

you'll still have the illegal bootleggers in Chinatown selling them. you'll forever hear them taunting you with "CD, DVD, STD for SALE" when you walk through a busy street over there.

I still use and buy CD's, if only to keep the feeling alive, plus it can be a pain in the ass the adjust the delay/start times for songs that are supposed to run together in digital files.

Damn that sucks. Whats the alternative? MP3? Is this a carrying issue or are they stopping manufacturing altogether? I havent owned an MP3 player or a proper computer for a few years now.

You guys are having selective memory. CDs sucked. Always getting scratched and skipping. Also those damn car visor holders would stretch so you had to add more CDs per slot and they'd all come spilling out when you turned. Good riddance

I guess you can always still burn the shit to your own cd’s.

I still do that from time to time for the garage radio

I still have a gigantic stack of tapes next to the garage radio that gets played in there lol

Do new cars even come with CD players anymore? Last one i test drove didn't even have one.

If the alternative is mp3, no thanks. Mp3's have far worse sound quality than CD's and it is easy to hear on high quality systems. Good thing there hasn't been any decent music in the last ten years and all the older stuff is on CD.

My grandpa had an RV and I listened to Led Zeppelin on 8 track in there. Best experience ever when I was a kid.

Best Buy decided to stop selling CD's because over the past few years they weren't selling much and just taking up space that could otherwise be used for other products. Their vinyl section however sells decently

CD sales hit a peak in 2001 of 712 million units but sales have dropped 88% to 85.4 million as of last year and continues to drop. Basically CD's are in hospice care as we speak

There's plenty of decent music, but there's also FLAC and DSD which is better than CD in some cases.

I still own a VCR. I'll buy CD's as long as they keep making them.

DSD is CD format so yeah, it sounds as good. FLAC as I understand it is far lower quality than CD and barely above MP3.

Vinyl is the only physical medium I buy as far as music goes. I can't even remember the last time I bought a CD, its been about 10 years. I am surprised so many CDs are sold each year but no doubt its gonna be a dead medium within 5 years. Kind of crazy knowing the next generation probably won't know what its like to buy stuff from an actual store.

FLAC can be 24 bit/192 KHz which is far better than CD.

Thank god for YouTube to MP3 converting sites.
