This series 'The Day...' is about 'extraordinary' moments in NHB/Vale Tudo history.
Today: [Braziian Vale Tudo Scene]

This can be seen as NHB/Vale Tudo´s modern evolution:
BJJ vs Karate Challenge [1976] > Hickson vs Rei Zulu x 2 [1980-84] > 1st BJJ vs Luta Livre Challenge [1984] > 2nd BJJ vs Luta Livre Challenge [1991] > UFC 1.
The truth is that, in the 1970s,, the Vale Tudo scene was slowly re-starting...
After the burst in the 1950s-60s, it suffered a severe crisis in the 1970s (Carlson had his retirement fight in 1970, against Waldemar...and this was Holls´ 1st & unique Vale Tudo fight b4 his accident...)
That´s when they managed to promote the BJJ vs Karate Challenge, with Holls vs Paulo do Karate [main event... students fightin´1st...]
Horion & Helio went to promote GJJ on TV, and a challenge was issued a few days later by Paulo & his students.
Then, the scene grew up till the Rickson vs Rei Zulu fights, and then the BJJ vs Luta Livre Challenge, in the early 1980s.
But technically, it was still Black Belts vs Black Belts in streetfights, since the events were pretty scarce.
Tbh, I really thought that this historical footage was lost...
