H-o-l-y sheeettt...

Rudimar Fedrigo jus´dropped a massive interview, spittin´ some real science...

B heavy shit.gif

Unfortunately, it´s in portuguese, and there´s too many valuable info in it, cant really make cliffs (2 hrs), but I´ll try to make several threads about it.
Some of 'The Day' Threads have already dealt with some of the things he´s recallin´, especially Chuteboxe & the Vale Tudo era...

Now... @ 50mn:

Q> What was the most important fight for the Chuteboxe Academy, historically?

Rudimar> So many [...] But for sure... The Sakuraba one, that Brazilian Killer...

Accordin´to him, he kept askin´Sakakibara to book this fight with Wand, but to no avail.
Then, one day, he agreed.
The Chuteboxe team flew to Japan, landed and went to train the very same day.
Sakakibara went to their gym that day, and accordin´to Rudimar, seemed kindah disappointed with SAKU.

He spoke harshly & asked them "to get the job done" (the whole team was laughin´by then).
He then added: "Do kill him!"

b wtfff.gif

Then Rudimar adds that for that fight, they allowed stomps, soccer kicks etc..

Q: The new rules permit you to sprawl to avoid the tackle and then put the knee in. This is advantageous for you isn't it?

Dan: I think the new rules are advantageous for us wrestlers. Sprawling is our specialty. From this position, landing knees is easy. So I used them. Coleman too, and got a KO [over Alan Goes]. Silva too. When I heard about the rule change, I was very much surprised.

Q: Surprised?

Dan: Before the Sakuraba vs. Silva fight, I never thought the rules would be changed like this. Because the change provided a clear advantage to Silva. Well, since the rules are changed, we will fight according to them.

For ME, Chute Boxe most important fight was Silva v Newton in Pride. 4 real tho, Silva bout murdered a former or future UFC chizamp. Yes I had some to drink, WAR @gono btw

so they only added soccer kicks and stomps for Wanderlei? lmfao

and for the intent of trying to kill a little japanese man just wow it's not like Saku was going to win that fight even in a cage

Poor Saku, my favorite fighter ever and he got screwed by his own manager (and supposed friend) Takada as well.
Which is why he and Matsui left Takada Dojo in protest back then...
Saku talked about it in lenght in his second book.

Apparently, even if Saku and his best friend Matsui were both total badasses, they didn't specifically request all these bouts against heavier opponents, it was all Takada's doing;
(he also screwed them over when it came to the money they made, but it's a looong story)
He knew those 2 weren't going to turn a fight down so he took advantage of their toughness.

Poor Saku really got screwed by PRIDE, a legend like him deserves so much more.
I'm happy that the UFC at least hasn't forgotten him.

It's part Saku's fault. PRIDE had no drug testing; he should have done what he needed to do and he would have won those fights against juicier guys.

It's not like he was short or anything; he was tall and had the frame to compete with the big guys if he added the muscle to it.

But......

Why?
1 (357).gif
Shouldnt the Japanese see him as their hero?

Haha, ok I didn't expect that answer;
Sakuraba was much more muscular when he was just doing pro-wrestling, he indeed looked a lot softer in PRIDE (in his UFC bout/s and for the Kimo fixed fight, he was still kinda ripped).

It's never been a secret that Saku loves his sake, and that he's been smoking a pack of Marlboros a day since he was in high-school, so I'm not sure if he is the type of guy who would bother going through the pains of roiding.
(Of course, for all we know he's been juicing like crazy all this time, but he's the kind of fighter I'd give the benefit of the doubt to)

And yes, it's part Saku's fault for taking these fights, it's not like he had a gun on his head; but between Sakakiraba & Takada, it must have been a pretty toxic work environment...
I was so happy when Chute Boxe adopted him, and he even got his own kouhai there in Andre Dida... it was always a treat when they uploaded a new "Chuteraba" training video \o/

"His head is like a brick, you can't avoid his ankle pick, your ass is on the floor, war Saku war..."

The truth is... SAKU was/is a weirdo.

There was somethin´ truly sadomasochist in him, more often than not his intuitive 'pulsion' was to test himself in the ring: he would try to beat the other guy at his own game, and that was his downfall in the Wand fights indeed.

He was injuried b4 the lil Nog fight, and he came in much heavier, definitely out of shape:

saku vs lil nog.png

Pride offered him 2 options: lil Nog or a debuting Mexican pro wrestler named El Solar.

“Rogério was the only choice,” he said. “If a rumor spread that I only fought weak opponents, people would be laughing at me until the era of my grandchildren. I have to avoid that. We’re both in the middleweight class, but our body types are so different. Well, this is the twin brother of Rodrigo who’s a heavyweight, right? So then, isn’t Rogerio a heavyweight, too? I really should’ve gone with El Solar.”

And Thus Spoke SAKU GOAT.

Nice, I actually didn't know about El Solar and this whole quote;
And it just so happens that Lil'Nog vs Sakuraba is, IMO, the best losing effort Saku ever put...
Rogerio won that decision, no controversy of course, but damn did he have to work hard to get this one.

Keeping in mind the reach/weight disadvantage that he suffered from, and that he was injured prior to the bout, that might be one of Saku's finest performances IMHO

I did get to train 2 weeks with Saku after fighting his protege Sato for 1 hour straight lol
