He says Dana called to check in with him and said he wished he would have known what was going on and that Barnett should have pulled out. Its alluded he helped out with money too, but nothing specific is said about it.

Barnett says he couldnt train and that his mind was obviously elsewhere throughout the contest. Even after the loss in the fight, all he could think about was making it home.

The article mentions children, so he is now a single father. Rooting for him against Collier, and in life.

Horrible situation. Prayers for him and the kids. Cant imagine going through that.

Wow Dana White is such a nice guy for calling him like that . All hail the cult of Dana White .

Anyways though thats fucked and his last fight was awful so I wonder if that played a role . Barnett's not very good and his meme fandom annoys me but hope he does well against Collier I suppose . Collier is umm.. not good.. lol so he should do fine. Could be an all around stinker though.

I wish it said what kind of decision he had to make. Article says his wife didn't pass away until the following month.

I understand being in that situation where a loved one is in the hospital on the verge of passing away. It's hard. No idea he went through this and I'll definitely be rooting for him against Collier.

More fighters should pull out of fights when they've got something like this going on. Spend that time with your loved ones and come back and fight when you're able to give it 100%>

I feel for Barnett, I had no idea about any of that. That's a shitty situation. He's a fun fighter to watch and exceedingly likeable... but he's a freak show fighter with a few tricks up his sleeve. It's arguable that he's truly a UFC-caliber Heavyweight (though one can argue that that even means on any given day). I think Collier out-hustles him, but I'm open to being proven wrong.

Collier is by no means elite. I still think it's a joke that he's a Middleweight who lost all discipline and decided to blow up to HW before fighting there... but he's arguably better than all of the unranked bottom-feeders at Heavyweight, to be honest. He should have gotten the nod against Arlovski, that was pretty much a robbery. Arguably the same case with his fight against Felipe. He has solid striking fundamentals, particularly with his boxing and puts out a ton of volume for a Heavyweight. He also has, um, okay "footwork". He's also shown inklings of a ground game, too -- he took Chase Sherman down and submitted him about as quick as Romanov did.

Easy to say they should pull out. Usually these times end up costing more money than normal so bringing in a pay check was probably essential.

Yeah all fair points, I keep having to remind myself this is Heavyweight lol . And your right he's got some nice boxing fundamentals and reminds me of Sakai or Dukakus with his volume striking, if he had the ring craft to cut people off and pin them against the cage he could start doing some damage more often . The Sherman win was honestly him just being heavier and Sherman being totally lost on the ground and on a losing streak(recent win is against vanderra lol) .

But anyways honestly I think you've convinced me that he [Collier] takes it. His fundamentals should keep him from getting caught by any of Barnett's spinning bullshit and his volume might start to really put the pace on him in the later rounds as Barnett always gasses . Plus if he's hurt or wants to just mix it up he should just be able to lay on top of Barnett and make him work.

Collier by unanimous decision .
