You are misunderstanding and confusing this with retirement.

Specifically because of California law (and other obvious pressures from the class action, especially the initial class) UFC promotional contracts switched to having a 5 year maximum limit.

This includes every clause for tolling and champions.

Ngannou will have reached 5 years roughly this time next year in January 2023.
