Cliffs:
- Colby will not be the next big thing in MMA whether he continues to win or not
- There is something missing. A hollowness to the covington character. A lack of authenticity. Colby is only like that when there is a mic on his face or he is about to post a tweet. Looking back at his early career old interviews he was a completely different guy.
- Its like he bought a book on "how to be chael sonnon" but only read the back cover.
- His character is "on" 100% of the time. If you watch interviews with chael or conor after their losses, you can see them legitimately down. Showing their true self. Colby gives us nothing.
- Even if he keeps winning he wont become a draw. MM has the longest win streak ever and nobody bats an eye. People want to see him lose, but might be enough just waking the next day and watching the highlights of the fight.
- Covington has 4 decisions wins in his last 5. 0 fight of the night and 0 finishing bonuses. Not an exiting fighter.
- Even if covington wins against tyron, then what? He would have already defeated his only rival ever, and there are no other interesting fights ahead. He is left only with his personality, which is, as discussed, a bit lackluster

Keep talking about ColbyGOAT. You’re helping spread the word.

He’s pretty entertaining at this exact moment. Who knows what comes of him...

it doesn't matter if he's not like that when not on the mic. sonnen is also a character but he did well, he's witty, funny. even mcgregor is different when the cameras aren't on him. colby doesn't have the same charisma as sonnen, but he's trying his own unique way. he's also getting better at it too. now, not sure if it's working, but it's a work in progress and he continues to win his fights

If his fighting style was exciting, or even interesting that might have put him over.

There's literally nothing interesting about his existence as a fighter other than him trying really hard to be interesting... I guess that counts.

The video does a better job explaining this than my cliffs.

They do acknowledge the fact conor and chael are also a character, but not 100%. You can see a bit of their true persona as well. And also, they are better actors.

Its been said that colbys lines are written by someone else... and it really looks like it. He has great one liners, but when asked something out of the ordinary during an interview he kinda bugs out a big hahahah
He isnt that good improvising

There are tons of interesting fights for Colby besides Tyron. Namely Usman and Till.

yes they are. i agree with all these names.

But they are not draw fights. They are interesting for us. But in terms of PPV numbers, these wouldnt be huge

No one cares about Usman. He’s not a needle mover. Who do you suggest Colby fights that can eat some ratings.

8:00-8:18 is on point.

He's not quick witted enough. Look at his exchanged with Bisping; Bisping owned him on the mic, because he's more intelligent and can come up with off-the-cuff responses faster. Colby was stumbling on his words, because when he doesn't have enough time to script a response, he's just not that clever.

Maybe, maybe not, it's still to early to tell. He only started to talk trash two fights ago.

These two points directly contradict each other - first, Colby is only "on" when he has a mic on his face or when he's tweeting, but then he's "on" 100% of the time? Make up your mind.

Furthermore, he hasn't lost yet since he developed his schtick, so we don't know how he'll react.

Shit thread.
