The fall out from GLORY 31 including, Sanechai vs Eddy Nait-Slimani and don't forget to compound it with, Marcus vs Levin 3 at GLORY 27 - the clinch and kickboxing are not buddies really, are they?

Nor, for referees according to IBMTO referee, Jesse Saunders - article link includes the embedded video of what he had to say as well as a certain someone's informed opinion on, Saenchai vs Nait-Slimani + Stefano Valenti: http://www.kickboxingplanet.com/new...kickboxing-saenchai-vs-nait-slimani-glory-31/

Alternatively, if you don't want to read about Stefano Valenti anymore than go straight to YouTube:

1 it was a legit knockdown and 2 saenchai wasn't deducted the point for excessive clinching but for catching the kick and attacking. What saenchai did was actually legal thou as he released the leg before his strike landed

Glory needs to totally revamp the clinching criteria. Have the refs count to 3 and then break like Glory Tokyo or abolish the clinching all together. Its unfair to the fans and especially the fighters.

Totally bullshit knockdowns is just another big problem on incompetent referees

The problem is that most of the Glory refs have no experience with clinching at all. Most of them (or all?) have a WAKO, ISKA or Dutch kickboxing background.

They see clinching as just stalling and do not understand the technique, set ups and craftsmanship. When there's a muay thai fighter competing in Glory they break the clinch immediately instead of following Glory's own rules of 3 seconds of clinching.

They need better instruction and maybe watch videos with the referee team to see what is allowed, when to break the clinch and when to let fighters fight.

Joop Ubeda comes to mind as someone who hated muay thai with a passion. He didn't like the Thai style of fighting. As a matter of fact, he didn't like any fighter who didn't have the aggressive brawler style. This is an attitude which is seen more often. Especially in the Netherlands.

Yes i have said many times it the these kickboxing refs that do not have any understanding of the clinch is the main problem. They do not know the positions and who is in control or when to break from a stalemate. It would not be hard for them to bring in refs from bangkok stadiums who actually know how to call the clinch and when to intervene. When fights take place between two fighters not known as clinchers in the stadiums they break them quick if they are not trying to better position and knee. If glory can't get their act together and get refs that properly deal with the clinch or train the ones they have they need to just go to a 3 second count as taking out the clinch completely just fucks up the whole flow of the fight

Glory rules allows for 5 seconds of active clinching with attack, not 3 seconds.

You're lucky to see a 3 second one....I agree that it's the refs problem not so much the rules themselves (the no catching kicks rule is incredibly lame though). I was watching kunlun the other day and it was so refreshing not to hear 'no clinching!' every 5 seconds.

Lol! Exactly and it is crazy that now even thou kunlun's rules do not allow the clinch their refs let it go longer than glorys who claim you have up to 5 seconds. The only glory ref to really ever call it close to the rules was big John and he was only there because the calfornia athletic commission was overseeing the officials and not glory

Ya Big John did a great job properly enforcing the rule. Another guy I really like is John Axewood.
