Erin Moriarty Cast as Starlight in Amazon’s Superhero Drama Series THE BOYS

Erin Moriarty is set to play one of the leads in Amazon’s straight-to-series drama The Boys, Deadline has learned.

Based on the comic book by Garth Ennis (Preacher) and Darick Robertson and created by Supernatural creator and Timeless co-creator Eric Kripke, The Boys is set in a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame. It revolves around a group of vigilantes known informally as “the boys,” who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty. Preacher‘s Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen are set to direct.

The project hails from Sony Pictures TV Studios, which will co-produce with Amazon, and Neal H. Moritz’s studio-based Original Films.

Moriaty will play Starlight aka Annie, a young woman with superhero powers who can make lightning bolts flash from her eyes. Her dream is to be a real superhero like the famous Seven.

Moriarty played Hope Shlottman on Jessica Jones and Natalia Wallraven on Red Widow, and she appeared opposite Woody Harrelson on the first season of HBO’s True Detective. Her film credits include Captain Fantastic and The Kings of Summer.

She has the perfect level of hotness and innocence. Poor girl...

Just make the book. Please...just make the book. I never read a single issue of Preacher and thought "Boy, I sure do wonder what someone with less talent than Garth Ennis would do with these characters." Not once. I thought "Man do I wanna see this...THIS...in live action."

If Rogan and Goldberg(the shitty ones) want to put their own spin on it, develop an original fucking property. I know it's way easier to buy an established brand with a pretty loyal audience and milk them for cash with a tangentially related series...but just make the book.

They better go panel for panel on Butcher's back story. That was too brutal not to be put in.

Good. Good. If it's successful, maybe Herogasm can be another season.

Calling it right now: no way they do the, "timing issue" scene...;)

I'm betting that's the scene that made them want to do it. It's closer to their usual shtick than the rest of the series.

Can't believe this is actually going ahead.

There's too much stuff in the source material I can never ever see them putting on screen for this to be faithful.

Liked him in Banshee, Hood was dope. But..... he's too much of a manlet to play the Homelander.

It really is. They did it in Superbad iirc. The scene where Hill is dancing with that chick.

Wow.

I'd heard that The Boys was in development somewhere, but I thought it was going to be HBO. DAAAAAANNNG!!! Amazon had better bring it or a lot of fans (me included) will be pi$$ed!

I want a shot for panel of Butcher's creation story.

with the way AMC fucked up Preacher I doubt they'll do this any worse then again they might make everyone American.

I am not excited about that casting. Not one bit. Especially...
Homelander vs Black Noir

So...they cast a black guy as Black Noir. Good to see Rogan and Goldberg paid attention to the books.

Homelander is supposed to be Superman like, not regular guy like. And Queen Maeve is supposed to be hot with a touch of slutty, not look like she belongs in a romantic comedy with Hugh Grant. Casting seems kind of weak so far.

Terrible casting. Queen Maeve should be like Stifler's Mom from American Pie. Black Noir is black? lol
