This was explained poorly IMO...

Why did translucent pop from the Ass Bomb? Shouldn't his impenetrable skin have contained the blast within his body?
Okay guys, I'm here. Welcome to my AMA! Yes, you're absolutely right, the skin should have contained the blast, but then we'd have missed out on that amazing bloody explosion of "blood and meat" (cause Translucent predicted his own death). One solid writer's room rule: "Keep Your Rules in Mind but Never Logic Yourself Out Of Entertainment."

There are many hardened and/or hard to damage materials that once you find a way to concentrate a blow will fail in spectacular and explosive fashion.

You just need to find that weak spot and the entire system collapses

I actually kind of like that idea.

You could bullshit your way around why he exploded. Maybe his skin is impenetrable from the outside but soft on the bottom layers, which could perhaps allow for tearing of the outer layers. Maybe his skin loses its impenetrable quality once he dies, and he died immediately.

I feel like trying to make up some fake TV science to explain in the show would be a waste of time. So instead, fuck it, let him explode, and let the nerds who will be offended at the plot hole be offended.

So much better than the comic book version. Starr's Homelander is manipulative and intelligent. He doesn't just rely on his incredible power.

Query: Shouldn't he have been able to fly that plane to safety form the outside? Or is he not that strong? Do they do a better job of explaining that in the comics?

I don't think he'd be able to fly the plane to safety simply because it's too big and too difficult to balance. If he'd tried it would have broken up or crash landed anyway.

Like he said, he would punch right through the hull. It's a matter of PSI; the entire weight of the plane against the few square inches of his hands. It's something that has bugged me for decades whenever I see superman do it.

Great show, finally finished season 1 this morning. Homelander is the most delightfully evil fucking terrorist super hero I've ever seen. Butcher's character was great, all the characters were pretty good. I especially liked how the whole first season dunked on The Deep after he flexed the first episode - so funny.

Finished up yesterday too. Like I mentioned previously, knew zero going in & I loved it. Cool show & concept. Can't wait for season 2.
I didn't even know it was based on a comic till I saw this thread. Thank fuck it wasn't on Fox, ABC etc. I liked the more adult approach, it would have been lost otherwise.

Well, this show is now endorsed by notorious superhero movie haters Red Letter Media/Half in the Bag, so it has to have something going for it.

What I like about it is Homelander is even "evil" he's just a douchebag who happens to be superman.

The names in this show are brilliant.

Homelander is the all powerful guy who can basically do whatever he wants even if it's wrong, just like the dept of homeland security.

Black Noir is a parody of how all black superheroes in the 60s had to have black in their name. Black giant, black Goliath, black panther. So now his name is literally "black black" lol because noir means black. But it works on another level too because he's the Batman character, and Batman is a very noir comic.

Haven't figured out the hidden meanings behind A-train and Maeve yet but I'm sure there's something there.

Also loved the inside joke of sending the "pervert" to live in Sandusky, of all cities.

Also that matrix speech about the red and blue pills was some of the best writing ever.

Then later butcher had another speech about the spice girls that was supposed to be funny but was some of the worst writing ever.
