The Best Videogame Console you ever played?

I never owned the SNES, had to choose and went with Genesis, as I was more into sports titles at the time. NHL and Madden played better on the Genesis IMO.

I had a friend who owned it, so I played some games, but it wasn't until I started emulating in the early 2000's that I played most of the great SNES games.

Youre right though, they held up really well, even today, and having access to everything, it was a blast. I remember downloading the entire library in a short time, think it was a couple Gigs. I was a like a kid with a free pass in a candy store.
Thats really it. I only wish I could play all that shit for the first time, but my respect only grows for a lot of these titles with time.

An argument could be made that the Genesis is better than the Super Nintendo. I liked it.

Zombies at my neighbors was on snes also

And mk 2 and 3 are better on snes

Switch 2 it has third party and amazing underated first party games like Prime 4, Donkey Kong Bananza, MK World, Zelda Age of Impronsenment, and third party AAA like Cyberpunk, Star Wars, AC: Origins, Final Fantasy Integrade, Elden Ring, Duskbloods and OO7 Nightfire coming.

Really nice graphics and screen. It just works everything so fast and accessible.

Probably Game Boy Color gave me the fondest memories overall.

That's what was so great about being a kid back then. You always knew someone who had one or the other. Then there was that one kid who had a Neo Geo or Turbo Graphix 16, and it felt like an entirely different world at their house.

So many hours spent playing Evander Holyfield boxing. Peak for the time. For the Genesis, should definitely have Gunstar Heroes and General Chaos in the list! Masterpieces.

It was definitely a good time to be a kid/gamer.

I only knew one kid who had a legit Neo Geo setup. His old man was a very wealthy salesman who would be in Japan regularly and he'd have all the cool shit you'd barely see over here. Neo Geo was one of them! Amazing system too.

Bonk's Adventure demos at Radio Shack bring back warm and fuzzies....

I got a neo geo from a family member who was stationed overseas. We didn’t have a converter, so it sat in its box for like 2.5 years. I didn’t even know the actual value of it at the time. My mom would have immediately sold it if she did.

My childhood neighborhood had some good kids in it. We would borrow each other’s systems and games all the time, as broke as we all were. It was like we all had every system out there. Just sometimes you would have had to wait a long time for your buddy to actually let you borrow something, but we all shared in our little group.

Had a SNES but was extremely jealous of anyone who had a Sega Genesis. So many great series (Streets of Rage, Phantasy Star, Golden Axe, Sonic and MK).

I am not making that argument.

But an argument could be made.

I get that. Although the first thing to do for a H2H would be to eliminate those titles they have in common (unless one believes one or the other platform's version was significantly superior).

Gene Tunney: Super Nintendo
  • Chrono Trigger
  • Bassin's Black Bass with Hank Parker
  • Lufia II
  • Mega Man X
  • Ogre Battle
  • P.T.O. 2
  • Shadowrun (the lesser version)
  • Sim City
  • Street Fighter II
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Super Mario All-Stars
  • Super Mario World
  • Super Metroid
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • Turtles in Time
  • U.N. Squadron

Gene Tunney: Sega Genesis
  • Beyond Oasis
  • Castle of Illusion
  • Castlevania Bloodlines
  • Contra
  • Dune II
  • Evander Holyfield's "Real Deal" Boxing
  • Golden Axe I, II, & III
  • Greatest Heavyweights
  • King Salmon
  • Phantasy Star II, III, & IV
  • Shadowrun (the better version)
  • Shining Force I & II
  • Shinobi
  • Sonic I, II, & III
  • Streets of Rage I, II, & III
  • Warsong

Both platforms:
  • Madden '94
  • MK I, II, & III (Mortal Kombat)
  • NBA JAM Tournament Edition
  • NHL '93
  • Operation Europe
  • P.T.O.
  • Tecmo Super Bowl
  • Zombies Ate My Neighbors

I’d have to say either NES or Xbox 360, and both on pure nostalgia alone.

My family got an NES for Christmas in 1990 and my older brother and I played the shit out of that thing until 1993 when my parents boxed it up and put it into storage as they were worried it was negatively our grades. Our favourite games were Super Mario 3, TMNT II, Mega Man 3, Blades of Steel and Adventure Island II. It stayed it storage until my brother went off to university in 1999 and he took it with him. After that I was strictly a PC gamer for the next 15 years. My dad got our family a Pentium around Christmas time in 1995 and I immediately installed Doom, Rise of the Triad, Dark Forces, Heretic, Hexen, X-Wing and Warcraft II.

Then my wife got me a 360 for Christmas in 2009. The first games I got for it were Assassin’s Creed II and Modern Warfare 2 and I was blown away by them as my PC gaming days had kind of petered out in 2006 so I hadn’t really stayed on top of the latest and greatest for a while at that point. That first year with the 360 I played some absolute bangers like Ninja Gaiden 2, Halo 3, Gears of War and Mass Effect. Even though I quickly changed loyalties and picked up a PS3 in 2011 followed by a PS4 in 2015 and a PS5 in 2020 I haven’t had as much fun with a console as I did that first year with the 360 other than maybe the first year with the NES way back in the day.

best console generation was prolly 360 and ps3 days. Prolly ps1,saturn, and n64 a close second... or maybe ps2 and xbox tied for second place

PC was always king tho, even before the Cd rom tech pc gaming explosion. During the 8 bit to early 16 bit era, Amiga was the place to be.

Thanks for organizing that for me.

As is, they look even.

I suppose I would have to add more games to the lists until a clear winner emerged...to parse through and judge every Genesis and Super Nintendo game ever made.

(my intuition says that the SNES would pull ahead)

I had two siblings so we used to play so much N64 multiplayer it was the best.

  • Mario Kart
  • WWF No Mercy
  • GoldenEye
  • Perfect Dark - wiped the floor with goldeneye for multiplayer, with all the different game modes and the addition of bots.
  • Smash Bros
  • Diddy Kong Racing
  • Starfox
  • Bomberman

Then when I was in my early 20s I lived in a houseshare with 3 friends and all had 360s and big TVs so we used to system link the Halo games and that was a blast.
