Additionally, most multiplatform games were better on SNES than Genesis (with Aladdin and MK1 being the obvious exceptions).

I still think mk was better on snes. It didn't have the blood which sucked but it still looked and sounded better and it had most of the original fatalities

The graphics and sound are better but no blood and most of the fatalities being edited (Kano's heart rip was now just a punch, for example) was such a big deal though. It sounds silly now but that was the whole point of MK at the time for kids. Definitely one of the main reasons why I got a Genesis for my birthday in 94 instead of SNES.

No blood in MK Snes was the biggest letdown of the year. Some kids never recovered.

I miss those days. Almost getting into fistfights during recess or at the bus stop over Sega vs Nintendo, WCW vs WWF, Nike vs Reebok, Shaq vs MJ, etc.

Yeah, MK without blood and fatalities was a non starter. The blood code for MK on the Genesis is almost as legendary as the Contra code. We weren't playing it for the gameplay, which compared to other fighters, was pretty basic. We bought/rented the game, entered the blood code, looked up all the fatality inputs in a guide, and did them over and over and over. That was it. That was the hook of the entire game for most people. Eliminating that element, was like taking guns out of "Call of Duty".

At least they got the message for MK2.

PS1 for me.

Siphon Filter series is my favorite shooter of all time
Plus I'd never seen anything like Gran Turismo or Resident Evil 2, they were just on a whole different level.

Plus the SmackDown games, symphony of the night, Tenchu, hell even the boring baseball game was fun, MLB '98

I was a Sega kid. Genesis and Dreamcast are among my favorite consoles. Dreamcast felt way ahead of its time and had some really great games. Soul Calibur and Shenmue blew my mind. I still remember where I was when I played them for the first time, just left a huge impression. Skies of Arcadia is one of my favorite RPGs to this day and wish Sega would bring it back. Power Stone was a blast with buddies.

Sega Genesis was my first console and I think it aged the best of all old consoles. I played Earthion this year and that game was made on the native hardware and also released digitally on modern consoles. Streets of Rage games, Sonic, Phantasy Star, Earthworm Jim, Ristar, Dynamite Headdy, Alien Soldier, Gunstar Heroes, Toejam and Earl, and many others don't feel dated at all to me.

After Sega got out of the hardware business I've been all about PlayStation and have owned every Sony console since including the portable ones. So if Sega was my first love, Sony PlayStation is like my long time marriage lol

See, I went Xbox.

I figured that, with the Shenmue games being released on Microsoft and all, that Shenmue 3 would be released on the console, as was my hope and dream.

Fast forward a decade or two later, it's a kickstarter project, Sony bagged it and even those who loved Shenmue as a kid and teared up on preview, thought it was shit.

That and the Yakuza games surpassed them.

The PS1 basically controlled a golden age. That said the only correct answer is whatever the latest and most popular is. You snes players would have killed to have these things

Nope.

Snes ftw

What does that have to do with anything???
Objectively if you could have a PS5 or a snes, you'd rather have the snes over the ps5. It has everything the snes had and more assuming we're not just talking about nostalgia.

That's not what this is about. It's about the bang for your buck you got at the time. The snes was unbelievable in the 90s when I had it. So many killer games that I still play today. Am I gonna play call of duty Black ops 7, 30 yrs from now?

Prob not.

Shenmue was for a time and place.

The way it innovated at the time, is so commonplace now, that there isnt really a point to do it.

My best memories of it, was exploring the quiet Japanese suburbs. Very beautiful.

While i owned many consoles and games for them. The games themselves while fun never fully engulfed me. I switched to Pc because online multiplayers did that.

Multitude of ATI GPU's, Intel CPU's, AMD CPU's, Nvidia GPU's, peripherals, consoles and games ive owned over the years dont hold any reverence from me. All were replaced by superior products.
