Askren is probably 100 times smarter than Masvidal,but his fighting IQ is dumb.

Masvidal is stupid in real life,and can barely form a sentence that makes sense.

but he is a battle genius.

Fighting is Instinct, your test score doesn't help you destroy another man.

People use the term 'fight IQ' to describe something they don't understand.

I disagree that fight IQ separates an absolute elite and a lowkey elite.

What really makes the difference between good and the great is approach.

Example:

A good guard passer will be the one who always relies on his technique (micro) and his guard passing ability is directly dependent on how good his technique is.

Great guard passer will rely on system of skills (macro) which has its own strategic/situational goals. He will more likely find a solution when facing problems.

Make no mistake, skills have to be learned in both cases.

Fight IQ does not always equal actual intelligence or being book smart.
