The Anime and Manga Thread v46 [OLD THREAD]

Without spoilers I can say it’s not as bad as I think people make it out to be. It’s just a very jarring way to end the story.
It just needs to be okay for me to OK AOT as my GOAT.

Any show with a season as good as Season 3 part 2 is on my Mount Rushmore.

Parasyte
Psycho-Pass
Berserk 90s version
Zetman
+1 on Parasyte. Everyone that watches it, likes it.

Cant say the same for the rest of the recs but I did like Zetman too. Parasyte is a solid 9 imo.

Rainbow is an amazing one. Super depressing af.

You can't say the same for berserk? Lol

yeah that made it 10x worse
But i meant the standard ending

hopefully they just leave those panels out of the anime all together
I didn't necessarily have a problem with the ending (either one) itself, I just absolutely hate time travel crap. There was no need for it.

I used to think CG was a top tier anime, even after several rewatches. I then rewatched it again last year....and its mediocre as fuck. I cant believe I actually rated it so highly. I think at the time it was great, but with age it has gotten worse.

You have my taste bruh and the reasons why I like the same shit. Its why I love ER......

Some suggestions as good as AOT? None on that level as far as I know. I watched sub so I dunno about dub. Its probably finished.

I loved Monster early on but I always hit some episodes in the middle that have nothing happening and I drop it. But its really well done.

Youve probably seen some I rate super highly and among my favourites ever.

If you like AOT, youll like The promised Neverland Season 1 is goddamn A+++++ tier. You'll love that if you havent seen it. 12 episodes of greatness. Dont watch the next season.

Some fantastic psychological thrillers include Kaiji. This show was pretty much the main inspiration for Squid Game. Some of the games are pretty much ripoffs in the show. Its slower at points but its so worth the payoffs.

A more sports version and more fast paced is One Outs. Its damn amazing. The same author did Liar Game, which I love.

Stein's Gate. Its 12 episode.....and it took me 2 tries to get past the first 6 but trust me its damn amazing. Its honestly worth it, and I actually enjoyed the first 6 more after the second 6 episodes.

These are more shonen and youve seen em but I love these:
These anime litter my top 25.

FMA: B
AOT
Death Note
Ippo. I love this shit, still the only manga I read.
Hunter X Hunter. Both versions, I love the darkness of the first.
Yu Yu Hakashu
Cowboy Bepop
Great Teacher Onizuka
Rainbow
Devilman Crybaby. Some of the best music in an anime ever. Episode 9 can make anyone cry. Edgy and might not be for everyone but I loved it.
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

Newer anime that may make the list if their series finishes strong:

Vinland Saga
Jujutsu Kaisen
Demon Slayer [I know, I know but that animation, the fights ooooh]
Tower of God

Guilty Pleasure that may make my top 10 if it finishes strong:

Kaguya Love is War [dub]. Great narrator, some absurd logic, and some dumb characters. Romance but fuck it man, just enjoy it.
Man Severence is awesome, too bad we need to wait a year for the second season. I love this kind of onion storytelling where new reveals put everything into context but also makes us question more.

Thanks for the list, there are a few in there I haven't seen.

Death Note and Steins Gate are at the top of my list.

I love Beebop and Ghost in the Shell (best opening songs first two seasons) too, but for anime I prefer more serialized shows

I love a good Shonen too, especially when it's globetrotting. I can always put myself back in my shoes as teenager watching it, so long as the main characters aren't children.

There are two HXH anime? The one I've been watching is on Netflix. I left off after Gon fought the clown guy (love that guy) after learning about the special Chi-like abilities everyone can tap into. I like it, but I find elements are dragged out over too many episodes. How far off the Chimera arc after that? I hear that is the best aspect of the series.

I don't read manga's either, but I think I might do that for Berserk. I loved the OG anime, and the Trilogy films, but it sucks never getting more of the story in one consistent anime. The last anime series we got was still good, but a huge step down. I know the creator died, but were his aids able to finish the manga with his notes?

I hate having to wait for Severance too, but it's nice to have something so excellent to look forward to. What a perfect cliffhanger. I love that Helly. She's not the most beautiful woman, but there's something special about her, want to smesh lol

For hxh there’s two more arcs between where you ended and where the chimera arc begins
York New and Greed Island

they’re both worth watching

the other hxh anime is an older adaptation and is also excellent but tonally the Netflix one works far better

Thanks man! I have a tv in my kitchen, so I watch Netflix when I'm eating/cooking. I've watching Star Trek Next Gen, but once I'm finished the series, I'll pick it back up.

I know several that didnt like Berserk. I didnt like the anime. Could never finish it. Too ashy. The manga is dope as fuck though.

Death Note.....stat. Until Season 3 part 2 for AOT, Death Note was my number 1.

Id recommend The promised Neverland season 1 [NOT season 2] after and then drop it.

As for HXH, just keep with it, its not too far. Youre in the middle of like a bridge arc where its connecting two big arcs. I loved every episode of HXH and the writer has made the best shonen ever. Yu Yu Hakashu and HxH are the best shonen.

Read Berserk.....no adaption is as good. Also takes a while to get as good as people say.

The women on Severance are fine as hell. Dont feel bad. Not everyone has to be an 11.

The first HxH is imo much closer to what I think of HxH as far as palette and tone. HxH is a dark fucked up anime, and the childlike nature of the newer one loses some of the atmosphere that the first had. Love em both.

Hxh and Yu Yu Hakasho are my favorite shounen as well

I differ with you though
I think that the childish tone of the new Hxh makes the Chimera Ant Arc hit that much harder (especially coming off the triumphant training arc tone of greed island). Same with the darker tones York New coming shortly after the bright and optimistic tower arc or the Hunter Exam finale coming after the rest of the hunter exam art. The tonal shifts of the newer adaptation are what make it super special to me

but that’s just a difference in taste, I love both adaptations and I agree that the first one is closer in tone to the manga

Your opinion is pretty much the consensus but Im not sure if its cause people watched the newer one first or if its because the old one is more incomplete than the new one.

Either way its all opinions and we can all agree HxH is too good.

God if Naruto didnt bottle it with Shipuuden, it would be GOAT tier. Too fucking bad. I didnt even finish Shipuuden cause of the sour taste.

One Piece is......too fucking long for no reason. It shouldve been the GOAT but concise storytelling isnt Oda's strong suit.

That Chimera Ant Arc felt like it would never end, and I found the big final payoffs disappointing.
