Thanks sherbro, maybe it's because I started watching during the early 2000s. But these are considered classic for a reason. If you haven't seen welcome to NHK or Oddtaxi I would highly recommend them. If I'm not mistaken they are also considered seinen. Also I don't know if you read manga nowadays but the author of Monster has some of the top thriller/Mystery manga of all time.





Thanks sherbro, I've been planning to rewatch Planetes since forever but haven't gotten around to it yet, amazing anime.

If you love monster than you should watch OddTaxi for sure.

i used to read the monster manga back in the mid 2000s, i loved that manga, heard of 20th century boys ? i loved that manga too ! if i remember well it had a pretty good intrigue.

Yes, 20th century boys and 21st century boys are some of the best thriller/manga out there. The same mangaka has two other manga that you might enjoy. Pluto and Billy bat, they are both thriller/Mystery but with some twists from his usual style.

I love nearly all those anime, but I think AOT is better. No story is more interesting than AOTs in anime. Most of those are good due to characters and the fights....important aspects but the narrative is the most important aspect to me and many others. Nothing beats AOT in that department.

Give me a character driven narrative over a plot driven narrative almost any day of the week.
Baccano is awesome so I'll choose to ignore that but I get not liking Darker than Black, its not for everyone.

I think AoT is great, I just don't think its all time - I actually think its action is better than a lot of of those I listed.
I just think AoT's characters suck. I know people disagree, but I think Eren was a bad protagonist pre-time skip and somehow a worse one post-time skip. I find him, his motivations and his interactions with other characters boring and lame.

Levi is awesome to me, and sticks to his ideals and morals regardless of pressure. I enjoy characters like that and imo wouldve been the only person that wasnt Mikasa or Eren who wouldve made the choice to bring back a certain character. He also fucks shit up.

Art is subjective anyways, so you can like what you like. I have a feeling AOT will be near the top of GOAT lists if it can land the final season and not Game of thrones the fuck out of it.

I had to read wiki on ergo to get understand the plot and technolyze wasnt easy to follow either.

aot is fairly straight forward really .

AOTs mystery, onion layer storytelling is not only more intricate but imo more impactful.

Being confused and having to look up the plot for a show is pretty poor storytelling. Its not a video game where you can have an experience regardless of the narrative....
