Oh the horror!

http://news.yahoo.com/special-report-why-obama-other-gun-control-advocates-153042870--sector.html

Barack Obama might seem an unlikely investor in the firearms industry. But the U.S. president, a fierce advocate for gun regulation, has money in a pension fund that holds stock in gun and ammunition companies.

Although Obama’s stake is minuscule, worth no more than $30, it reflects a much larger surge of investment.

The president is among millions of Americans buying into gun companies - often unwittingly - as mutual funds have increased such holdings to record levels, according to a Reuters analysis of institutional investment in firearms companies.

Since Obama was elected in 2009, mutual funds have raised their stakes to about $510 million from $30 million in the nation’s two largest gun manufacturers with publicly traded shares, Smith & Wesson Corp and Sturm, Ruger & Co. That means such stocks are now common in retirement and college savings plans.

Some members of Congress welcome the investment option.

“I’m just grateful the fund managers are investing in something that’s making money,” said Representative Kevin Cramer, a North Dakota Republican who opposes gun restrictions and has a small investment in the S fund.

All government agencies should have access to our medical records. It's in our best interests.

http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/30790522/gun-permit-applicants-denied-over-medical-dispute

HPD officers are now handing out a memo to gun permit applicants that states a doctor must sign a note on official letterhead stating the individual "shall own, possess, or control any firearm or ammunition and has been medically documented to be no longer adversely affected by the addiction, abuse, dependence, mental disease, disorder or defect".

"It's some kind of new legal mumbo jumbo about I have to admit that I was treated for mental or drug abuse which I have never done, so that would be a lie. Kaiser says they won't do it so you have to seek an outside doctor. I did so, and they did not accept that doctor's letter," he said.

HPD provided Hawaii News Now with the following statement: "The gun permit process requires a letter from a medical provider stating whether the provider has records relating to the applicant's mental health history or treatment. About a year ago, certain providers stopped sending such a letter and instead sent the applicant's complete medical records to HPD."

Applicants say it appears HPD does not want to review those files and make a determination on their own.

Instead, the department is requiring a doctor to grant that permission.

However, Hawaii News Now has learned Kaiser's policy prohibits them from doing so.

Kaiser Permanente officials say the law does require them to release health information to HPD, but it does not require doctors to give a medical clearance "determination".

"The police department is the only organization who can evaluate an individual's fitness to acquire or own a firearm. Health care organizations/providers do not make these evaluations," the statement from Kaiser explained.

I'm not against the assault weapon ban. I owned an AR-15 for a few years and it was a fun rifle to bring to the range, especially with a bump-fire stock, but I just don't think it's really a weapon that citizens need to defend themselves. It's more of a nice-to-have. I ended up selling it to my Brother and used some of the money to purchase the Benelli M4. If the world goes to shit, I feel much safer with a 6 shell semi-auto shotgun loaded with slugs.

People really make too much fuss over these restrictions. They should be more concerned about the raising of taxes so they can afford to buy a background check in the future.

What about it makes it unsuitable for civilians any more then say a Ruger mini 14 ranch rifle?

As a former ar15 owner i am fine with an assault weapons ban. I have always prefered rifles and shotguns over handguns but honestly, giving up assault is such a 1st world problem. Besides, when the shit goes down, nothing beats a semi auto shotgun filled with slugs.

How many times have you made this post? I feel like I've seen it a lot. It is incredibly stupid. Btw some of the awb's being proposed would have that Benelli banned as well.

Imo the AR15 is the best home defense weapon out there. High capacity, next to 0 recoil(good for people of all sizes and strength levels), easy to be extremely accurate with (hostage situation or anything that needs pin point accuracy), won't over penetrate through people or walls as much(like a slug or buckshot), etc. The AR is the most versatile platform out there.

As far as powerful goes, with good ammo

Im just not expecting to fight battles like a marine so the versatility of a modern AR is overkill. It does bring advantage to long range shootouts like those with law enforcement which why you can imagine some people see them as a major threat in the hands of an ambitous pyschopath.

The people who cling to these guns are usually ex military or fantasizing about being a combat troop. Lol

Ridiculous. Since the 1960's-now millions of people have bought an AR. Some are definitely ex military but I would bet a pretty big majority see it as a very practical and extremely versitile platform. Of course couch commandos own them as well. It brings the advantage so that a women could easily use it. It brings the advantage of not blasting through a person and every wall in the house, accuracy and everything else I mentioned.

So what were you when you bought yours? Also a civilian version of a military shotgun says what about a person? What about auto loading pistols? Does that get the same label as the AR15 from you, because who needs more than a 6 round .44 magnum amirite?

Also you mention you don't plan on fighting battles but you brought up a shtf scenario in your first post? So you act like ar15 owners are the people who talk about this stuff(wanna be commandos) and you (maybe not you, not going to dig in your post history) joke about red dawn and shit but you literally made that an arguing point in the post.

Are you in favor of Amending the Constitution to fit your views or just ignoring it?

Ya they stopped that I wrote them a letter threatening to sue them and they dropped that policy

I'm sure they didn't want to tangle with you again.

Wish you could scare the state government into abandoning their anti-NFA stance as well. :)

And here in lies the problem. Once one firearm is identified as being unsuitable for civilian ownership it opens up potential floodgates.

You guys would be so frustrated if you had to deal with the bullshit that we have to here.

I'm glad we don't and we will keep fighting to keep it that way.

I don't take bumpfire people serious

And yet you admit to having one of those stupid bump fire stocks. Oh the irony.

I've never touched a bumpfire stock or seen one on a gun . . . but I can purchase them through a few wholesalers and was wondering what the story was with them.

For idiots that want to waste rounds at a quicker rate

They are also a good way to get the ATF looking in to your business for attempting to skirt their self interpreted regulations

Based on the videos I've seen of them in action why wouldn't you want one if you were out hunting a big sounder of pigs? Once you got the hang of it that thing could be pretty useful.

Not sure how it would get the ATF involved in anything . . . they've supposedly approved the various designs as being within their self interpreted regs . . .
