The AJ Styles WWE Thread

I suppose I need to see a lot more of AJ styles to confirm his as the pro wrestling jezus like all hardcore fans.. But I did think he did a great job taking bumps. His offense wasn't game changing but certainly on par or even slightly above. Hes defiantly too small though. I don't see him getting much respect being so petite.
If you think Seth Rollins is near GOAT level, you definitely need to see AJ Styles. Moveset, workrate, and pure athleticism, he's got Rollins beat. He is too polite, too nice, and his mic work has always been subpar and that will definitely be a hindrance in the WWE.

I'll help you out a bit since your acumen of pro wrestling is always so limited :)

I've never seen much of him. I thought he looked pretty good in the Rumble but I thought his match with Jericho was really sloppy. I attributed most of it to AJ, he seemed out of place on a few spots and his timing looked off. Maybe he's just getting accustomed to the new environment. I think he can be a strong mid card guy, definitely an IC champ. But I don't think he's a top guy in terms of look or charisma.

That was all Jericho. AJ had to slow down to give Jericho any chance to keep up. He'll look better with faster guys that can go his speed.

Anything less than a World title reign would be a waste of AJ's talents, and from the reports, they're paying him too much money to not give him a main event shot.

I agree that aj is as good of a worker as Seth or better. I also think he is too nice and laid back to get over.

I got to see AJ Styles the night before the Royal Rumble at the ROH show, which was my first time going to a pro wrestling event. The show was awesome and although he did not wrestle we did get to see him do the Style's Clash.

He's pretty terrible these day; way too small and doesn't have the personality to make up for it.

Beiber hair

AJ supposedly has a redonk contract...hell be champ before long

Aj is awesome as fook, still feels weird seeing him in WWE

I just want Rollins vs AJ ladder match

Hope the guy adds a new dynamic to the main eventers.. Hes going to need to get rid of his girly hair style and that precision groomed facial hair to be taken seriously. We already have load of talented small dudes like neville/luchas... So I feel like hes just going to add a new element to the mid card.

WWE should spend some time training their larger guys to have matches with the smaller guys. Its annoying seeing really fast and talented people like AJ and Kalisto do these complicated and impressive moves just to have guys like Del Rio not have any idea how/when to throw himself into the move and react to it. Instead you just get the guy doing flips on his neck for 3 seconds and it ends with him just falling over.. It makes it look like it hurt the attacker more than the defender... I hate it when a move gets done and I can't tell who took the damage until a few seconds after it's done and the commentators have to explain it.

Stopped watching TNA after they lost their Spike deal, but I saw a commercial for some WWE game the other day with Samoa Joe in it and my interest is kind of rekindling.

That Jericho match was kind of bleh. AJ can go for days, and it kind of sucks to see him work the WWE style and have the crowd and commentators no-sell his signature moves.

Hopefully they give him a chance to show he belongs in the big show.

I still watch TNA and enjoy it. I would like to see AJ vs Neville next

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with how the used AJ in the Rumble. When he came out so early against Reigns, I fully expected him to get bounced like a hood-rats alimony check. After seeing his NJPW stuff, he's actually been showing some personality which was lacking in his TNA time. Hopefully they let him do his thing, he could make for some interesting new matchups. Now if they would just pirate Okada and Ibushi to go with Styles and Nakamura...

He also has something that other smaller wrestlers lack and that is a convincing moveset. His punches, kicks, clotheslines etc look like they are actually being thrown with conviction, not little love taps designed for little more than to set up an overly complicated spot.

I think that the Calf Crusher can be known as a staple finishing move and it is realistic for his size. I'd like to see the Styles Clash take a bit of a back seat to it...

Yeah, the Calf Crusher would be great with emphasis. It seems like every technical wrestler who makes it has their own signature submission.

Oh man Styles Clash to Calf Killer chain.... for when you absolutely have to finish a Guy...

AJ is making too much money and is so over at this early point that they have no choice but to push him into the Main Event scene quickly. Hopefully they won't screw it up too badly. Wouldn't mind seeing Bullet Club vs Authority angle followed by a BC heel turn further down the road.

Would love to see a Shield reformation vs Bullet/Balor club..
