The ABILITY TO FINISH = The Magic of Fighting

I'll 50-45 anybody in this thread. Like so hard.

Dumb? I'll bet I made more money last week then you will make this month.
Super cringe that you feel the need to try and justify yourself to a stranger online. You mentioned you've been watching fights since 71', so you're well into your 50's, If not your 60's; not only do you have an inflated sense of self, but you're obviously insecure as well. No bueno, especially at your age.

I did pay ... and I regret it <45>

Aren't you the dude who created a topic about not buying it?

Um, not.

I don't consider Aljamain Sterling a "Champion" ... (his win, his rematch, and his--ahem--"title defense" against Dillishaw were all weak AF, IMO.

And now ...

Aljamain faces another midget, who's come out of retirement, and I am supposed to pay money to see this?
Um, no, don't think so.

I would never pay a penny to watch Aljamain.
I would have paid full-price to see an active Cejudo ...

But there are too many weaknesses in Sterling, and too many unknowns in (the current) Cejudo, to make it worth my while to pay money to see this.

If Cejudo wins, I will pay to see his next fight.
If Sterling wins, I still wouldn't pay a penny to watch this thespian.

Fight Night freebies only.

So...you just create crappy topics out of habit?

It takes alot more skill, patience and discipline. So,no it isnt easier, and even if it was,so what, why make it harder on yourself if you dont have to?

because imo it takes more to be a finisher. because it carries more risk. requires you to take initiative.

Let's cut through all the BS.

We all respect at the time + the effort + the sacrifices it takes to be a professional fighter. It's not an easy road to hoe.

That said, professional fighters are here to perform for our entertainment.
If they are not "entertaining," then they are not doing their job.
Remember folks, it's our money, and we can spend it how we wish.

Like a waiter or waitress, if a waitress gives me great service, I'm going to give her a great tip. But if my drinks aren't filled regularly, or if she neglects me and my woman at the table, then she is going to get nothing. I don't actually "owe her" (or him) anything. A server's level of service literally determines my motivation to compensate him or her.

Folks, we didn't choose anyone's "profession"; they did.
They opted to be a server (or a fighter), so they need to provide me with great service.
(I have, literally, tipped servers 100%, based on their great service, and I have also literally tipped 0%, because of their poor service.)

The fighting profession is the same, IMO.
Fighters are are not "a necessity" in my life.
I pay to watch them to be entertained.
As such, fighters must entertain me (and you) to get my (and your) money.

That said, fighters who take chances, fighters who let it all hang out, fighters who forever try to finish, are exciting fighters to me. That's what I'm paying to see.

By contrast, fighters who "back up," or who are "extra cautious," and/or who appear more "afraid of losing" than they are "desirous of winning" ... are wasting my fogging time and wasting my fogging money. (Yours too.)

Yes, of course, I fully get strategy against legit-tough opponents.

Sometimes a fighter is facing an opponent for whom it's going to take a while to get to. A very dangerous, capable opponent is going to take a lot of strategy, and a sustained, methodical effort to eventually break.
No problem. I appreciate the drama, and I recognize the extra complexity + effort + time continuum.

But the flipside to this is that, there are also fighters who literally can't bust a grape with their punches. They literally can't submit anyone.
And they literally don't really have the fire to forever seek to dominate and finish, either.

They are basically just going through the motions, "trying not to lose," but not really intent on decisively winning. Who wants to watch that ship?

This post is for the "apologists" for mediocre fighters.
We are not required "to pay" to see people like that.
Fight promoters have to watch for these things, because whether they get (or do not get) PPV payments depends on the likelihood of my (and you) being excited enough to pay to watch this stuff..

Promotors, who are doing their jobs, have to promote those fighters who (at the very least) are trying to kill or be killed ... and they get rid of over-cautious, non-finishing (ahem) "fighters" looking to win "on points."

The latter is not really fighting at all, IMO.

The ability (and intent) TO FINISH is what the fight game is all about.

Nope...

Fighters job is as follows..

Training & diet ,get better

Make Weight

Win the fight..

Rinse and repeat.

Fighting is the entertainment, seeing as fighting is pretty much illegal in every country outside of combat sports...the fight themselves is the entertainment...no fighter is required to take unnecessary risks just so you can smile at home...when they win they get paid more...thats the #1 priority...

That said , those fighters that do take the risk or choose to be exciting when fighting and win most of the time make more money than those who are not so the game is already set up to reward exciting fighters more than non-exciting fighters but to say that only exciting fighters are worth respect or should get title shots or are seen as more valuable is wrong....winning is winning ... It's not always the most exciting team that wins the Super bowl but they're still the champions..

It was awesome when Izzy KOed that guy.
It was much better than Alexs KO.
Alex looked dead on the floor.

I can see why people don't watch MMA. When they grapple it looks like an ugly mess at first.
