No but it is the one that fits his current and past behavior. You can even go back before his candidacy: when the validity of his statements is questioned Trump cannot defend his positions. Instead he lashes out and threatens legal action.
It seems to be working for him. Doesn't it also fit his persona to show he's not beholding to conventions of the establishment and that he's to big for FOX news to bring down?
Personally I object to calling these things debates. Q&A is far more accurate, based on the multitude of topics and precious few exchanges that enlighten the viewer with facts. There's really no tangible benefit to assembling the candidate on stage other than maybe letting the voters know who they should be favoring.
