That’s right, another weight cut thread

I really thought that the dude who collapsed face first walking out of the scale would generate more news and people claiming for something to be done.

But apparently no one gave a single fuck so I would suggest that weight cut ain't going nowhere.

Maybe, maybe, if someone in the UFC (and only the UFC) dies from it.

Otherwise, business as usual.

It's fine everyone is a pussy. But saying Conor should fight LHWs is stupid. He can't fight anyone that isn't cutting weight. So it makes no difference if they cut to be in the same weight classes or not. Weight cutting is just the best answer right now to get fighters in the same weight class. UFC isn't going to do pride style LW vs HW shit with 2 skilled opponents.

{<shrug} whaddya got?

You got a plan?

<cruzshake> probably not

Until...

Yup

I don't know................weight cutting has been around forever. Not sure why he trying to say/acting like this is something new in the last decade or whatever.

Ending the weight-cutting bullshit would be so easy.

If all NBA players believed that 4 hours of extreme cardio workout right before each game was smart, the NBA could just hire people to teach them that it is not smart. So easy. The good news is that none of them are that stupid, so no need.

UFC fighters = same.

Ringside weigh-ins. If you miss weight, forfeit entire purse to opponent, cancel fight, move on. They'll figure it. In about 5 seconds.

There is a sad irony in the fact that one of the original selling points of early MMA was the absence of weight classes, and now there is arguably no sport more obsessed with weight cutting than MMA.

When fighters talk about the hardest part of a training camp, it's almost never the training itself. It is making the weight. Not perfecting techniques or strategy, but how much water they can drain from their bodies without actually dying. That is not martial arts.

If we are going to have cage fighting be accepted and sanctioned and widely available on tv, there must be weight classes. If there are weight classes, weight cutting will exist, no matter if there are guys fainting or dying. End of story.

Its always been like this and will never change. Same day weigh ins wouldn't stop weight cutting.

No promoter will risk half his card being canceled like someone suggested by weighing them right before they step in the cage. Too much money on the line.

This is a brutal thing we all watch, from the training to the cutting to the actual fights and aftermath meaning injuries sustained during the fight and long term damage. If you cant deal with knowing all that maybe cage fighting just isnt for you

Even easier than the “random weight controls” everyone advocate for (and they’re right).

If a fighter cage weight is 10% higher than his weight class, no purse and he is forced to compete at the upper division for his next fight.

Zhumagulov in his last bout 56,7 kg on weight-in. day later - 70 kg -FLW-Title fight.

BTW i think that its part of the game...

Not allowing extreme water weight cutting (and I mean half the % fighters are doing) could be extremely easy without jeopardizing any card.

Some fans just have embraced weight cutting as a side show of the sport, like the trade deadline or the draft.

Ain't gonna lie, I've never been a fan of weight cutting. I feel it  does have a place, but mostly for fighters with body types that don't really fit into a specific weight class. Cutting a few pounds isn't that big a deal. Those dudes who cut 30-40 pounds to make LW, I don't like it.

He's right, weight cutting was barely a thing in PRIDE, it's barely a thing in Japan now. Shaydullaev is smaller than most of his opponents, fights up from his perceived home weight class, and smashes the absolute shit out of everyone. I think Rumble was the best example of why fighters should fight close to their natural weights, you're not tearing your body up, you're going into a fight healthier. Wish more fighters would look to his example

"Just don't do the thing I don't like"

Said all the tards with no viable solutions and nothing of value to contribute

Then they all lived happily ever after.{<juhyunok>}

As long as wrestlers are involved in MMA weight cutting will be a thing. They know how to cut weight, and do so better than most. It is a skill like anything else in MMA. If a fighter cuts too much weight he is going to likely pay for it inside the cage.

<mma4> oh yeah.

I forgot California solved weight cutting.

Well
Glad we cleared that up. <GinJuice>
They didnt, why they didnt? Cause its not followed by everyone else, fighters that violate the weigh-cutting rules in California rarely will fight there again, or ever, but if ALL AC´s follow the rules then said fighter wont have a place to fight...This includes the UFC following the rules when going overseas, if no one else follows then it fixes nothing, like it currently is.
