Thank you and goodbye BJJ

i went through torn labrum (sp?) surgery only so i could train bjj. i have to squat using a frigging shoulder shrug bar

I can't tell you if you'd feel that way if you spent maybe........half of the past 2 years limping. It must mean more to you then dude. And it means a lot to me.

What you got up for sale? Gi's, dvd's books etc?? Big Boy needs to come up.

Lots o shit. I thought about just going to the gym and offloading it but....what if I go back. Yeah will go and hand it out next week

You are kicking a man when he can't go the ground. I still have to the ability to punch pricks in the face.

Wow, you can punch people through the internet? Those are some 1337 5k1llz.

Wow, you have the power to be sarcastic to people who are heartbroken that that can't do what they love anymore? Really? He wasn't being a prick?

Nobody gives a f*&^...some white belt gets hurt a lot and quits? next thread button... hopefully it's more interesting

I was mistaken for thinking anybody would give a fuck. As I say, its been fun, BJJ's awesome. And there are so many cool people that'll keep doing it despite having to put up with fools like you.

I hear wing chun is good......................................

All you guys having a go...what the hell, seriously?

You don't even know the guy and you're taking the time to kick him when he's down for the sake of it? And hey, if you have to quit due to injury that's a billion times better than the guy who just can't take getting tapped or the stress of being a blue belt or whatever.

Hope your ankle heals up in the future and you can have another run at it in the future.

How old are you, may I ask?

Why say quit? Just take a break or put on hold. Sounds like you love the sport but you're just compiling too many injuries.

I have about a dozen sports/activities that I love to do. I don't consider myself quitting any of them because I like to think I'll go back to them some day.

But it you grew to hate the sport then I understand, by all means quit.

TS, you shouldve tapped before getting hurt. BJJ didnt cripple you, your pride did.

Here's a depressing thought. I've spent six years training BJJ full time, ever since I left university. I could, at any moment, suffer an injury that would put me out for well over a year. Heck, even two or three before getting back to full fitness. In doing so, I would lose not only my entire opportunity to be competitive in the adult division, as well as my ability to perform my job properly and everything that comes with that. And whilst I try not to think about it, this is the reality for any one of us who trains. The consequences might vary slightly, but don't kick a man when he's down, because next time it could be you.

jeez, if jits is this hard on your body I'd stay far, far away from snow boarding, skateboarding, walking to fast, etc.

Nobody likes a quitter

Shut up, he's fucking injured, you prick. I hate this stupid jock attitude that if you quit, no matter what fucking reason you have, or if you sit out, then you're a pussy and a quitter and all that stupid shit. Just to let you know, I normally don't cuss, even on Sherdog. That stupid shit makes me madder than hell...

On a more positive note, that sucks, man. It sounds like you're really hesitant. Realize, though, you don't have to leave the sport entirely. You could be a referee or something. Or even just hang out around the gym. Unless you feel like you can't be around it at all or else you'll be tempted.

I'm thirty two. And cheers, the only time I was ever disappointed in myself during BJJ was when i tapped too early or got tired. I tried to make that a rarity.

Good luck, dude.

I'm 36. Today I was talking to a 41 year old judo BB about the notion of taking up Judo at my age (my BJJ friends think I'm nuts.)

One thing we agreed upon is that a lot of time younger guys don't take time to heal injuries properly. Sounds like that's what happened to you to some extent.

I respect your choice and hope you enjoy your other acitvities to the extent you can still do them maybe someday you'll be back on the mats.

Incidentally: glad to hear somebody mention warts, since I got some once and the guy who owned the gym I trained at insisted you couldn't get them from jiu jitsu. My doctor said you can get them just from walking across the same tiles as an infected person at the pool (they're common among swimmers.)

Maturity, wisdom and empathy. Thanks.

And does that somehow make you a pussy for being responsible or getting tired?

Dude, the entire art of BJJ tapped you out, for good it seems. Dont make tapping too early sound like its dumb.
