I came across this video on Facebook and located the video on YouTube. I'm kinda mixed. Although I like the teacher going off on this whiny student, I was slightly turned off towards the end of the teacher's rant as it was bordering on "white guilt / pandering to minorities."

 
The teacher takes it to an extreme but does so to make an important point. I've seen this before and I still like it.
 
I don't get it. Kind of weird and unnatural to me.
 
Never seen this before. She makes strong arguments, particularly when the girl comes back into the classroom as if nothing happened.
 
Meh, kind of dumb, but a lesson can be learned. I guess this works on certain types.
 
I don't feel white guilt. First slave owner in the country was a black man. The slave owners (and only about 5% of whites owned slaves in contrast to the 45% of Jews that owned slaves) got the slaves from Africa who had made others blacks slaves through tribal warfare.

No one goes on about the inherently racist nature of the Black Panther Party.

I'd tell that teacher to shove it up her ass. Also, the student was a whiny cunt.

'White Guilt' is stupid because no white person alive in this country was a slave owner and it's absurd to think they should feel guilty or held accountable for what other people did in the past just because they share the same skin color.

No need to go to the terrible "well, he did it too!" defense

Exactly. The only racism I see in this country is people telling me I got where I'm at because I'm privileged. Fuck working hard, it's skin color. Newsflash! One of my best friends was a Mexican immigrant that grew up in poverty, eventually worked hard, studied chemistry at the same university as me and went to Medical School. But, erm that's impossible because white privledge derp.

That she needs to apologize to black people? No, that was dumb. Teachers aren't supposed to play mommy or daddy.

She asked her to apologize to the people in her class for her actions in the class.

And yes teachers are supposed to play mommy and daddy to some extent. That's the whole reason we ever had civics classes in schools in the first place, it's why we said the Pledge of Allegiance. Because schools teach cultural morals alongside hard subjects like math and history.

I was listening to psychologist just the other day on the needs of special education for kids and he made a statement about schools that I think is important. That schools exist to also teach certain social mores.

The statement was in the context of seeking special education and how much time should pass before you should petition a school board for a client but the larger point was specifically about how we do expect kids to be parented to some extent by the school. We, the adults, expect it and assume it's happening.

I don't think the idea is productive at all, but why would you think "white guilt" is just about slavery? In my mind it's more about what happened AFTER slavery.
 
What the hell is this? Why is that old bag lecturing these kids about racism instead of teaching them algebra?

She asked her to specifically apologize to the black people, not just "people".

I have to admit, I don't feel particularly guilty about my northern forefathers fighting in the civil war.
 
I legit have no idea what is going on in this video. Also, for the white folks in this thread that roll their eyes and go "not this business again" when you hear the words "Emmet Till", just remember that things like the Emmet Till murder happened regularly in the South for a long time, nobody ever talked about them. There is my SJW two cents for the day.

Perhaps the education system should teach these kids something that will help them prosper in life, like mathematics or physics.

Teaching students they are victims and white people are out to get them isn't going to help them do shit. Maybe they'll get jobs as a "diversity trainer" or some shit.
