I just started back after more than two years away due to ill health. My shoulders, upper back etc were a bit sore after my first session, but nothing I didn't expect. But my toes were raw from mat burn.

I know that eventually my skin will toughen up, but until then I don't want to be bleeding on my Academy's mats, or my partner's gi. What tape do you guys use/recommend?

Thanks in advance.

It's hard to find online now but this is what you want if you can get it. This is to grapplers what duct tape is to rednecks. Cloth mesh tape that actually stays on fingers and toes, provides the right amount of protection and will get you a goddamn sexual tyrannosaurus. It's 1.5 inches wide but you can rip it along the grain to make a strip any width you need.

Any athletic tape should be good

Respectfully disagree. For grappling I've not found any other tape that stays on and protects better than the specific brand I posted above. Knock-offs are hit or miss - some work just as well but many are more plasticky and won't stay on fingers and toes for more than a few minutes into grappling.
