Tankless water heater?

3rd thing in the house to start shitting out in as many weeks. I have a 25 year old Bradford White waterheater that's getting a little sus. Was wondering if it's worth upgrading to a tankless? Anyone have any input?
 
They are good, but mine doesn't seem to heat as well as the old school heater I had.

But that might be due to EPA regulations that companies have to follow or the fact that I switched from oil to gas.Theres also a set limit in temp with tankless heaters that you can’t go over, not sure if the old one had a limit.

Overall I would recommend it, saves a ton of space, looks nice, bills are lower and its much more efficient.

Yeah they're good. Whatever capacity you think you need get two sizes up.

I am in a similar situation, and am letting mine go until it bursts all over the garage. Same brand and probably similar age. I am looking to go tankless also when needed. I was gonna flush the tank, but I read up and people say if you try to flush it this old, it will basically make it non-functional. I guess the tankless is the future. I will miss having emergency water storage, however.
 
I decided not to a year and a half ago and am regretting it now... Cool shower this morning on a -20'ish degree day. Wasn't the end of the world, but you don't want cold water tickling your bum after you've been out shoveling first thing in the morning.
 
I would get a tankless. I have a hot water heater with a tank and the hot water runs out quickly. I feel it’s one of those things that can improve your quality of life because it sucks so much taking a cold shower.
 
Went with a tankless water heater a few years ago and I hated it. Not enough capacity and obviously doesn't work during an outage. Switched back to a regular water heater and won't be falling for that crap again.
 
I would switch as long as it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to upgrade your gas lines and exhaust. A tank style heater is gross old technology. Definitely make sure a reputable plumbing company sizes it correctly though.
 
I'm happy with tankless. One complaint would be that when running the water more warm than hot it will just go cold. Like I'm not pulling enough hot water through so I get none. Not ever running out of hot water is great though.
 
I've got a tankless gas heater for my water it's fine.

Sounds like a hot water pressure issue.
 
25 years old??? I've been at my current place 14 years and I'm on my 3rd water heater.
 
they are good for small applications like cabins and places where you really want to conserve, but I'll always have a tank and circulation loop.

I'm too dumb to know. But I did lower the temp setting on the heater and don't have the problem much anymore. Presumably because I'm using more hot water, but not getting scalded in the process. :D
 
I have a tank that heats on demand. New one with the power vent, high efficiency. Works awesome. Never runs out.

We have had a Navien Tankless. Works great and we never run out of hot water. We used to have to wait 60 to 90 seconds for hot water with the old Tank system. The Navien has a recirculating pump and we have instant hot water at every tap. It's SO nice. Especially on cold mornings. ;)
