worried about the effects of detraining....felt ive never reach such peak conditioning...(been training for 8 weeks)

correct me if im wrong but i believe detraining occurs after 2 weeks of no activity...

during fight week couple of workouts are done to allow body to recover and keep adaptations followed by fight day couple days after.....

post fight week do you guys comepletely take a week off or keep yourself active with other sports? that way you dont complete lose any adaptations?

I was talking about this on saturday with some guys at the gym. If you did high level training and reach a peak. After a match or tournament you should do some sports gradually lower the intensity. Then get to a point where you can take a week off.

Active recovery FTW.

should i still keep the volume the same?

but all light workouts?

ps there was a thread on tapering and mentioned something about post fight recovery.....i cant find it, if anyone can link it that be great

I advocate deloading for a week. Deloading after a stressful event is important, which means not only less intensity, but also less volume. Recovery is the name of the game here, your conditioning won't suffer overly in a week, but having straight periods of taking fights back-to-back can be taxing on the mind and body. Having said that, some aerobic exercise and also some light training sessions won't do too much harm. After you've had a back-off period, then it's time to start building back up again.

Well, it depends on how you were training up until the fight. If you planned your peak out for this fight, you probably reduced your volume somewhat and increased your intensity (e.g. when I was training & peaking for some stage races, I went from about ~18hrs a week down to about 8-10 when I was working the peak).

If that's the case, your volume might stay about the same but the intensity should be minimal.

If you didn't really plan your peak out & tried to cram in all your training in the last 6 weeks (don't do that, btw), then you'll probably want to reduce the volume a bit.

But, essentially, for at least a couple of days, do what you want to do and don't do what doesn't excite you. I would, however, recommend spending at least a couple of those first days doing something that isn't directly fight related (e.g. ride a bike, run, swim, play some soccer, pick up basketball, &c.) so you get a good mental break and you come back hungry.

thanks for the reply guys

leading up to the fight i was training twice a day 4x week....had my fight on the 6th week of
training where i keep the intensity the same but cut the volume down by 50%, scheduled to have another fight 2 weeks later so i kept the volume the same but fairly dropped the intensity....then 8th week which is this week, i significantly dropped the volume
