The idea that people call it an excuse is ridiculous, it’s the reason not the excuse! Is it plausible to think that a fighter or anyone, before or after a failed test, will test the millions of available substances you can purchase in order to find a drug also found in PEDs? Additionally will they time the random test in order to make sure that the level of PEDs in their system matches with the amount found in the tainted product? If yes then they have someone in their pocket when innocent! If that were true than why the charades?

Novitsky explained the process on JRE, that is the closest we’ll get to the process so I’ll take it as fact. So what have you folks? Provide an argument that trumps Novitsky based on facts he has and not your feelings

I like to believe that the real tainted supplements is the friendship every fighter finds along the way.

Would be refreshing if just once a fighter would say "Yeah I knew I was cheating but I figured I probably wouldn't get caught and it was worth the risk".
Rather than blaming Kangeroo meat and magic skin cream.

I could provide many rational arguments, TS. Unfortunately, you've outed yourself for being too emotionally involved to understand any explanation with any semblance of logic. This is you providing an emotional response to your favorite fighter pissing hot, then seeking confirmation for whatever excuses (read again: excuses) you could come up with that doesn't taint the unblemished picture of them you still hold in your mind. So, no need to waste more time on your delusions that, by definition, you're not willing to abandon anyway.

There have been cases even in the UFC where the fighter was able to prove the supplement they were taking was tainted with PEDs.

Sometimes it's a legitimate excuse, sometimes not.

Well probably because shit like tainted kangaroo meat was found to happen per the golden snitch.

The only flaw in your thinking is that there is more than one camp on this topic. You view the OP as being in denial but in my case, its not denial, I just don't care. Bones is still one of the greatest fighters I've ever seen.

chael manned up:

"That day of reckoning has come for Sonnen, who readily admits he knew what he was doing when he failed those two drug tests and that he was fully in the wrong."

If only they would have stuck to cell-tech. All the benefits of anabolic steroids and no failed tests.

Huh? Come again! Emotional? I had always been under the assumption that the tainted supplement talk was bullshit, until someone in the business disproved the idea that a tainted supplement defense if successful is in fact true. Tell me again how I feel? I have no emotional attachment to the athletes or the sport. I love it though, you should continue trying to sound smart by imagining facts in your unblemished mind! Good job on avoiding sharing your many rational arguments!
My favourite fighters by the way are GSP, Edgar and Dillashaw. Have they pissed hot yet?

there are supplements which are virtually guaranteed* to not trigger a positive test. WME suggest using these supplements (NOTE: i think WME owns shares of some of them too).

instead, some fighters choose to buy supplements with names like "Xtreme Natural Testosterone Booster", made in Uruguay. there are no banned ingredients on the ingredient list, and then they show surprise when they test +.

why would the fighter do that, you may ask?

well, it turns out that those supplements that are virtually guaranteed* to not trigger a positive do not lead to as good a workout as supplements with names like "Xtreme Natural Testosterone Booster".

gee, i wonder why.

and then yes, as explained by Novitsky, the fighter puts "Xtreme Natural Testosterone Booster" down as a substance they took, USADA tests the leftovers in the bottle, then they buy a bottle from the store and test it, and yes, it turns out "Xtreme Natural Testosterone Booster" is tainted.

gee, big shocker. maybe that's why the workout was so much better after taking it.

this short story post is the reason why i fully agree with suspending these fighters who continue to try boosting their T "naturally" (and "Xtremely") while playing the naivety game. when all they had to do was take the supplements that are virtually guaranteed* to not trigger a positive.

Great point! Which may be the exact reason they get suspended for ignorance. Has a fighter with a successful tainted supplement defense ever not received a suspension? Imo Jones deserved what he got for his dick pill because any reasonable person would have at the very least briefly considered the consequences. That however does not make it cheating, just stupid.

no, they always receive a suspension. but sometimes the suspension is about the natural time between fights (e.g. 6 months). and in the case of Jones they tested his product and found it was tainted and the arbitrator still gave him the maximum sentence allowed because (and here i paraphrase) he's a fucking idiot. their findings, not mine; i just paraphrased.

if they find it was an honest mistake, 6 months. if they find you're being dishonest, max (e.g. Mendes, Jones).

sometimes there are fighters that fall through the cracks of this extremely simplistic model i just presented. like Cro Cop and Machida, who admitted to accidentally taking something banned, didn't test +, and still got a long-ish suspension. my guess is that USADA simply didn't believe their stories.

lol he is a ducking idiot! But novitsky referred to his past case I believe when explaining the process. Someone else used the dick pill defense, were they found guilty? If yes did they receive the same amount of time?

i don't know if someone else had ever used the dick pill defense. but the arbitrators were clear in their report that they gave him the max because they believe that it was an accident, and he's a fucking idiot for stumbling into this accident. source.

his most ardent supporters seem to find solace in the fact the arbitrator believes it was an accident. but it seems to me like being considered a dumbshit for doing something accidentally is almost worse. like when you think someone on sherdog is trolling, and then you slowly come to realize that no, they're actually that fucking stupid.

They can have their supplements tested, by a 3rd party. USADA has guidelines about that. So, there is no excuse for taking ACTUAL tainted supplements.

And, there is serious education to athletes through the USADA Supplement 411. Including a list of high risk supplements. And the FDA Health Fraud link. And, their best advice...

Don’t take the fuckin stuff...Period. And, seriously...Why would an elite International level athlete need supplements, to begin with ? Look at MM, for example.

Well, there it is. There is just no legit excuse to pop due to “ tainted supplements. “
