Not entirely sure how online books would work. Since it would be a state by state thing.
Only thing that would suck is I am sure CA would find a way to get their taxes out of this.

i thought it was new jersey only? but even then it will open the floodgates to a LOT of untapped money into the industry, and specifically mma too. I have to imagine many states will allow online books, which would be amazing for everyone in here. it will mean a lot more lines, lines opening sooner, more options for avoiding limits, less juiced odds due to the competition, and the possibility for exchanges to get a foothold in the us market.

new jersey is gonna start but all states are now allowed to implement it basically. there are like 5 other states that plan on getting it set up immediately too if i remember correctly
Temper your expectations. The states will likely follow Nevada's model where they mostly encourage sports betting at a select group of brick & mortar books or through an associated online account for in-state residents using their geo-restrictive mobile app. The major sports leagues like the NBA want in on the action as well and to get a cut of the revenue, which if that goes through by mutual consent of the states, would mean more juiced lines, not less. There may be other restrictions as well. It all remains to be seen how it shakes out.

Not exactly, it's illegal to run a sportsbook in the U.S, or one that takes action from U.S. customers, hence why the overseas online sportsbooks operate servers, domains and banking far from the long arm of U.S. jurisdiction.

Didn't really think about that. Not that I consider myself a shark, but nor do I think I'm some schlub mark either. Moderately profitable over a LONG period of time (12+ years). Good call Sharkey, I was thinking there would be more "dumb" or "dead" money out there, but didn't really consider some of the stupid stuff talking heads will throw out there just for attention that could influence the new influx of money coming in.
It absolutely could make a difference. I'm a UK sports bettor and there was always great money to be made betting at American bookies. They had amazing promotion and terms. Since the crackdown this dried up to almost nothing, but if gambling opens up, most likely we'd be able to have accounts there also at some point with free flowing promos again.
Nothing is for sure obviously, but a return to how it was some years back and it will add a significant amount to my income. I'm keeping tabs on it for sure.

Guys like you who know their sport(s), do their homework, and also know probabilities when it comes to looking at lines, should have a field day with this stuff, Mike. The vast majority of writers are hired for their writing ability first and foremost, with their knowledge on the sport(s) being secondary. Ditto for sports talk hosts, who are hired for their personalities and ability to speak in front of a camera first and foremost, with again their knowledge on the sport(s) being secondary. They may have some knowledge on the sport they write/talk about, but I would doubt very much that more than a small percentage of them have the capping and betting knowledge to go along with it. Yet these are the type of people that are going to have a lot of influence on the lines you guys get to play.
