Economy Supermarket destroys food, does not let people salvage them

There is liability if someone were to get sick from any of that food. The people may be hungry but let one of them get sick and they would sue right away.

If there are so many hungry and starving people up there they should stop their nightly temper tantrums and work to help each other.

Literally none of this is true. These places even let their employees eat expired food.

I did but it was for nefarious reasons
I'm curious how many people in this thread have ever honestly volunteered at a soup kitchen or something similar?

Several will say they have, only a fraction will be telling the truth.

If there's one thing that comes to mind when I think about Portland it's conservatism.
It is a bit ridiculous though. I remember about 20 years back Walgreens just tossing electronics and stuff from their discount section in the dumpster when it'd make more sense to give such things away as prizes in some fashion to bolster visits and encourage purchases.

Only in America, bums who won't get off their sorry asses to make a better life for themselves, but will gladly muster up the energy to go scream and curse at people who won't give them shit for free. Good for Fred Meyer, bums already have enough incentive to not do a damn thing with their lives.

Stores are not responsible for shit they didn't sell to you. Do you seriously believe homeless people can sue Safeway because they drank the spoiled milk from the dumpster?

Do you seriously believe these practices the entire industry takes part in is based on nothing, and that you know better than them?

Where are the pseudo sherdog lawyers when we need them. It’s obviously due to lawsuits that the stores are trashing the food. I worked retail in college and stores got sued by low life people

A lot of grocery chains actually dispose of their perishable waste as compost. Not sure if that’s the case here, either way it’s their garbage and they don’t have any obligation to allow people to dig through it. Most people throw away food all the time and don’t want people digging through their garbage either.

I might be a bum, a thief, a liar, a dumpster diver and a snitch but I'm not a pornstar.
Let’s talk about honesty here. ;)I wished you just addressed if you are in fact a tranny by night to ease the Mayberry crowd.

And does knowingly allowing access to perishables that have been stored in broken refrigeration units constitute that? I'd argue that it does.
also, those lawyers on retainer you keep mentioning-do you think they would recommend throwing it away or letting people grab it out of the dumpster? Be honest.

  1. You'd be wrong
  2. What your lawyer would recommend has no bearing on whether you are liable or not.
Also, just as an aside, when you say "letting people do x" in a legal context that would imply it's up to you to decide what people do which it's not. If someone blows their brains out in a grocery store you wouldn't say that store lets people kill themselves there.

You want them to let poor people "salvage" spoiled and contaminated food? You must be special.

Absolutely, they would find a reason to sue. It doesn't have to be a real reason, but they will find it. This is America. The amount of money you can make from lawsuits is too big for fraud to not exist. You simply can't give people opportunities to try to scam you. If you can make a million dollars for finding a dildo in a box of cracker jacks, you best believe people will find dildos in boxes of cracker jacks. You keep autistically pointing to the letter of the law despite people telling you that the law is not the real world. Law or not, there is no limit to the amount of bullshit ambulance chasers can find to put you through.
