Economy Supermarket destroys food, does not let people salvage them

So you're saying that Fred Meyer will be held liable for something they did not sell, did not donate, and was literally taken from the trash
DOesn't matter if they're liable. IF a lawyer can make a good enough argument to get the case heard, at that point the store is going to settle. Not worth risking the off chance of losing the case plus negative media/more lawsuits. The point of going to court in this scenario is to get money any way possible, not winning a moral victory by being in the right. Money.

Looks like mostly cheese and yoghurt in the picture though. Hard cheese should be OK, but yoghurts pretty questionable.
Although if the temperatures are around freezing anyway it should be fine (this is because of lack of refrigeration right?).
You're right though in that use by dates are often simply a matter of quality rather than potential for illness.
And chicken. Lots of chicken. What could go wrong?

Is this necessary?
Are you asking if it was necessary for 12 cops to post up beside the Hollywood district Fred Meyer dumpster in an attempt to thwart people taking trash can cheese?

Well it's a good thing the Portland homeless haven't scanned the Sherdog War Room and caught a clue. People eat out of those dumpsters literally every day and have had a gold mine right under their noses the whole time.

Well yeah yoghurt is common sense, (hard) cheese will be fine after one night. Canned food, dry food, cookies etc are safe to eat even after the date of expiration.

No, I was asking if it was necessary for me to repeat the question, as though you just can't understand what I'm saying.

You know lawyers can be overzealous and tend to write a Magnus Opus for all the things their client can not be held responsible for.

So what you're saying is...the entire industry that all do this for legal reasons are wrong, and you know better?

Sounds rational. I'm sure they're all making a big deal out of nothing, and haven't actually done any investigations on their liability over the years, that has led them all to follow these protocols. They're just winging it, I guess. You seem to know better than them. Get them on the horn. You need to enlighten them with stories of neighbors taking away your wood, like it's remotely comparable. Go blow their minds with you vast legal knowledge on this subject and change the industry.

Probably more risky giving away wood, considering people can get splinters or injure themselves carrying it away. Or they make something that is load bearing using the lumber but lumber was defective so it gives way.

So tell me , how come there are soo many organization donating food, because you would think they would all be getting sued .

Let them know that on your conference call. I'm sure they'll be impressed with legal arguments like that one.

Seriously, why are you wasting time here? You could be out there changing the entire food industry. Go now!

Well I did used to sell commerical food equipment a long time ago....

Sherdog needs me more.

If you look into surveys from food retailers, 60+% think they are legally liable for whatever they donate...not out of the realm of possibility that they were nervous about people consuming from their dumpster
Sure, I understand the concern. I'm just pointing out that they're not going to lose that lawsuit. Being sued is a pain in and of itself, at least they won't also end up paying damages.

Makes me curious about liability. Someone in this thread said it was a liability issue if you gave it away, does this not apply to churches or was he wrong? Or maybe its just different from state to state. America can be a bit confusing with laws sometimes for us filthy foreigners :D
Churches most likely don't give away out of date food or else they would be liable if someone got sick. That's why you often see charities asking for donations of food with a long shelf life.

I watched videos of this. Completely expected. Not that I completely disagree with some of the feelings, but this anarchist twats feel that they have the right to anything and to do anything. I love seeing this bitches get stomped but it so rarely happens because they are treated with kid gloves

"If we can't profit off of this food, no one should eat it"

Disgusting.
So why would anyone actually buy anything? Just wait until its free at the end of the week.

Can't decide if I'm amused or saddened at the idea that people are fighting for the right to pick through the trash and eat garbage. For fucks sake.

They have to be kept under 45 degrees or people may get sick and therefore they would sue the store for getting ill

it’s unfortunate but blame that o food safety regulations and sue happy people.

Most of the food that gets thrown away in the supermarket is totally fine to eat. Complete and utter waste. Of course, profits etc.

Yes, Murica. Where there are 17 million vacant unused houses and 500,000 homeless people. Where we throw away enough food to feed all the hungry and poor.
