Im about a week into Starrs program. Just curious if one program is better than the other in the subtle differences. Im still early enough to switch if needed.

The Stronglifts is fine for what it is but it's not as good as the Starr 5x5 or the Rippetoe. If you squat 5x5 three times a week, you will stall out and plateau pretty fast. Most switch to 3x5 for the squats even when doing the Stronglifts version.

The stronglifts 5x5 is a beginner routine, with similarties to Starting Strength. The Bill Starr 5x5 is meant for someone with a bit more experience lifting ie a beginner-intermediate. For example a beginner could do the stronglifts routine, and when that no longer produced gains, switch to the Bill Starr 5x5.

I'd say stronglifts 5x5 to learn the lifts.

When the weight gets heavier, go Rippetoe.

When it gets too heavy too add 3x a week, go Bill Starr

Well after looking at starting strength, stronglifts 5x5, and bill starr 5x5, I have a question. Is there a reason why SS and stronglifts only have you deadlifting 1 set a week (or two every other week). Bill Starr 5x5 however has you do 5 sets. To me that seems better than the other two. However, I still am relatively a newb at this so any input would be appreciated.

Recovery is the issue. SS is for newbs devoid of adaptation to the big three.

But wouldn't each program be essentially the same recovery time in between deadlift workouts? It's just that you work deadlifts a lot more during the workout with Bill Starr 5x5.

The clue is in your second sentence.

Really? Why is that?

BS5x5 uses linear progression and has you squatting 3 times a week. That seems like a beginner program to me.

With BS 5x5, even though it's linear progression, you make weekly improvements instead of improvements every session like SS (no idea what stronglifts program is like)

the beginner strong lift 5x5 has you do every session like SS

Biggest difference between SS is that SL does 5x5 vs 3x5 and instead of power cleans (5x3) they use Bent Over Rows (5x5)

You stall faster on 5x5 but their argument is (not saying I'm agreeing or disagreeing) is that you practice the lifts more.
