Is it me or does it seem like there is a loophole in the sport that allows a person who scored a knock down to strike their opponent in the back of the head if the strikes are in the spirit of stopping the fight? What's your take on this?

Also, is the N'Gannou vs Dos Santos fight worth contesting? Do you think they will use this stoppage as an excuse to set Junior up for a title shot rematch if he doesn't contest the decision?

Can’t really blame Ngannou when JDS turtled up in the worst way, just asking to get hit in the back of the head.

Real smart of Jds to try that punch, overextended himself and leave himself so vulnerable. What the heck was he thinking? He was suppose to be a crisp, patient boxer vs a guy known for power, yet as u see he was swinging for the fences like a fool. I dont remember him ever doing that in the past..

Yeah dude, absolutely terrible shot selection from that range with no attempt to disguise it leaving himself over extended then panicking when he caught that shot in the back of the head (through no fault of Francis.)

Then to compound the problem instead of continuing forward and rolling to the left under and away from Francis he stands straight up and turns away leaving himself even more exposed.

Was weird coming from a guy that was once a mechanically sound MMA Boxer.

Don't turtle up if you don't want to get hit in the back of the head.

Turning to the point where the opponent has no choice but to hit you in the back of the head isn't illegal

The rules aren't black and white like many of ya'll believe

I think guys really do get a bit shook in there with him and think that they need to immediately throw something hard at him to get his respect. Seconds before that he barely escaped a HUGE overhand right while he was backed up against the cage (as JDS does), and he must have felt he needed to throw something that would back Ngannou up and keep him from pressuring. I think it's the same reason Overeem made the ill-advised decision to start swinging on him. In both situations both fighters did something uncharacteristic against the very last guy in the division you want to do that thing against. They have to be aware that it's not smart to do it, so I can only think they got a bit desperate.

Off topic but I've always found slams where they're intentionally driving the back of their opponents head into the canvas pretty brutal, no rule on it though so fair game.

People panic in there with ngannou and rightly so (his power though promoted cartoonishly by the ufc is real).

Overeem did the same.

Stipe went to wrestle fuck straight away (smart)
Lewis and ngannou had a staring match.

He fought the dumbest possible fight against Lewis and almost got clipped. Why is everybody so surprised about he way that he fought Ngannou?

I wonder if you guys have ever seen Junior actually fight

that looping off balance OHP is like his favorite punch, followed by that no set up overhand
and his defense has always been bad

Because he jabbed Carwin who has t rex arms to death 8 years ago, so everyone thinks his boxing is elite

"Elite boxing" from a guy whose game usually breaks down when he's pressured or when his opponent forces him to advance.

Ngannou's shots were to the side of the head

Turtling for an extended period of time is basically submitting

According to the UFC unified rules, strikes to the spine or the back of the head are not allowed.

When I rewatched the live feed, they only showed one replay (the second replay) where you could clearly see strikes to the back of the head, which means any gifs that you see will probably hide that particular angle.

While I try and find a gif with the right angle, I will provide examples of what I am talking about:

**I am not talking about the strikes that causes a knock down, I am talking about strikes to the back of the head that causes the ref to intervene.**
