Strickland Explains His 'Cautious' Performance

Is his excuse/explanation acceptable to you, Sherbros?

“I’ve got a lot of fancy f—ers wearing suits, and they come up and talk to me about title fights and things of that nature,” Strickland said. “You hear that all the time and you start thinking, ‘Do I really want to risk getting knocked out when I can go for a title fight?’ So I let the fancy folks in the suits throw me off a little bit. But it won’t happen again.

He says he won't let it happen again, but he still has to face the danger of maybe getting KO'd and losing out on a title shot. Fancy fuckers wearing suits not withstanding.

This isn't an anomoaly for Sean. It's the norm. It's almost like people haven't seen his WW career, or the jotko fight.

Agree not sure why people expected him to fight like Royval or Prime Tony.

jack was in no danger of winning that fight at any juncture, couldn’t believe that card

In fairness to Sal, those were the closest rounds in the fight. One other judge gave Jack the third round and the third judge gave Jack the first. Does seem odd Sal ended up giving all three close rounds to Jack though.

Strickland has nothing to apologize for. He should however stop talking about himself like a psychopathic killer that only finishes fights.

I see his point though...
...but then again, he maybe just learned that if he starts being boring, title shots will come slower than if he risks it all and gets a stoppage.

We have to accept that he won't know all the answers right away and give him the benefit of the doubt.

Listen, I think his biggest problem was too many bong his if resin before the fight. You can't tell me that dude doesn't take bong his of resin

Listen, english is tight.

Your biggest problem, is relating life to bongs ...

followed by grammar.

Yeah, I believe him. Thing is he doesn't really needs to do is keep winning. (Unless your name is Leon Edwards).

If he was that scared by Jack Hermansson, what would he have done if it was a Paulo Costa in front of him? Or a Brunson or Cannonier? Those guys can really punch

To be fair, strikers are usually more timid against grapplers than they are with other strikers. It wasn't Hermannsons striking that had Strickland cautious.

The best part was at the end of the 5th round when he shouted to Jack something like "here in the center!" - while walking backwards, away from the center
And then "pussy!" - while still walking backwards, away from Jack

Not everyone fights as crazy as they talk.

Strickalnd is not full El Cucuy.

Fighters generally pull well into 6 figures for title fights. That's enough money to motivate them to "get the W"

Also, not sure if Sean could have finished the fight. Jack is tough and Strickland isn't exactly a one hitter quitter type of striker.

No but he could've went a bit harder sir.

It’s a valid reason but he always fights like that so it shouldn’t apply here.
