After losing its original directors, Legendary and Capcom's live-action Street Fighter reboot is moving forward with Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip) at the helm, and the casting process recently got underway.

Now, Jeff Sneider is reporting that the movie is looking to add some more star power in the form of Walton Goggins, who is in talks to play the villainous leader of Shadaloo, M. Bison. Singer Orville Peck is also on board as blade-handed narcissist Vega, and comedian Eric André will play "the loud-mouthed ring announcer who hypes up the crowd."

Goggins has numerous film and TV roles on his résumé, but has been garnering more mainstream acclaim and attention thanks to recent roles in Fallout and season 3 of The White Lotus (and let's not forget about Uncle Baby Billy from The Righteous Gemstones).

Andrew Koji and Noah Centineo have reportedly closed their deals to play the co-lead roles of Ryu and Ken, respectively, and Jason Momoa and WWE pro-wrestler Roman Reigns (real name Leati Joseph Anoaʻi) are also said to be in negotiations.

Reigns is believed to be in line to play the villainous Akuma, the man who killed Ryu and Ken's trainer and his own older brother Gouken, while several sources are reporting that Momoa will take on the role of green-skinned fan-favorite, Blanka..

Raul Julia left some big shoes to fill. Good luck, Goggins.

Raul Julia was pretty easily the best aspect of that movie. RIP. Great actor who stole the show pretty much every time out, whether he was a lead or a supporting player.

Goggins is great though, too. Don’t know if I see him as Bison. But, honestly, I think this is an incredibly difficult property to adapt in any type of meaningful, narrative way. Some things just don’t translate that well from video game to film. I don’t have much of an expectation that this will be good but I’ll give it a shot.

1995 Mortal Kombat seemed to be a cut above most of its contemporaries in that regard. And, to me, that mainly fell on the fact that they somehow managed to get the right tone and right amount of fun, silliness, and decent action.

Raul, God rest him, dropped one of the most stone-cold, fuck you lines in cinema history.

Awesome. Thoughts on Goggins? Just made a thread on him. He kills every role. Dont know hes big enough though.

Raul Julia was dying of cancer during the shoot. In fact, he made the film so he could make more money to leave to his family. So he wasn't exactly in Prime Arnold shape, poor guy. :(

Goggins can always hit the gym and get on that Holywood Nutrition if they want him to bulk up. Or if all else fails, he can use a Muscle Suit like RDJ's wearing for Doomsday.

Thats fair. I never really liked Julia in that role from a physical standpoint though hes at least taller 6'2". I'm good with putting Goggins in anything though and let him take a shot.

Agreed. He's an elite-level actor, which is more important than his physical stature.

Mel Gibson is a Manlet, but managed to win an Oscar for Braveheart, in spite of the real William Wallace being around two meters tall and built like a brick shithouse. ;)

True

Bison casting is terrible lol

SF will never get good movie because american directors don't understand japanese IPs and japanese movies suck being done with japanese only audience in mind

Bizzarre part is the base material would be super easy to adapt, you literally have just to casting that does'nt suck and make it international tournament based like Van Damme's the Quest, with some plot (Bison being evil/having psycho power) going on

Make the initial qualification fights being on streets around the world to show some places variety and wink at classic stages, then go full The Quest in second half, boom done

Also i just seen on Netflix Saint Seiya with Ned Stark and Xmen pheonix, holy fuck why these people can't just leave my childhood jewels alone lmao
