This Trump affair issue is much less comparable to Clinton and much more comparable to John Edwards - both affair pre-campaign, payoff to buy silence and election finance ramifications.

Where is Edwards' political career right now?

Edwards was indicted, but ultimately found not guilty at trial. His defense was he paid off the woman years previously to make sure his cancer stricken wife didn't find out and thus it had nothing to do with the election and thus improper campaign contribution. Trump's lawyer paid off Stormy a month before election day.
