to be on topic, there's a tactic to discredit a thing by taking a person involved and showing how wrong they have been or how unethical, etc. It's almost the "Alex Jones effect" where he often brought important information to the public eye but was so easily dismissed because of his bombast or how far he'd get into certain topics... most people see a headline with certain words and associate it negatively with the topic and that's enough to control their minds...

If you frame it that way I might agree with you. I still maintain that the prominant figures of the 18th century were largely self serving and analgous to the prominent figures of today.

I do think society as a whole in the 18th century had more integrity than society of today does. That probably produced leaders and figures with more integrity than the leaders and figures we produce today in a general sense. If figures had more integrity back then it was probably because they had to. They were dealing with a public that had more integrity.

Maybe 200 years from now someone will read an honest and profound letter Biden penned to Kamala and will think, this is a man of integrity who cared more about the public's well being and the country than his own personal gain... perhaps the landscape for service used to be different where a higher percentage of honest people got involved with the shaping of America through governance and part or most of that might have been because the public as a whole had integrity and wouldn't stand for corruption. Now it seems even if that person existed and was interested in serving America they wouldn't get past the corrupt fail-safes... I believe these people exist but the corruption is so ingrained and the mentality of the people so malleable they aren't able to rise to positions of influence, if they are able to they are handcuffed at every turn and smeared by the propaganda machine so to be one way or another, controlled...
