Economy stock talk v7, meme stocks go up

New to stock speculation/investment... what books or resources would you guys recommend? I'm not looking to be a professional trader or anything but I got a little bit of extra cash to play with and would like to do more than just gamble with it.

I wouldn't recommend any specific book.
If you want the high of chasing things and watching tickers; I'd say start devouring investopedia and other resources.
Otherwise I'd say just find some things where you can forsee growth that isn't fully priced into stocks, buy, and do something better with your life.

There are some great videos on Youtube for pure beginners. Once you learn the basics around trading then move into options. Naked puts and covered calls baby!

this guy is really good for explaining the concepts to those just learning about the market.



edit: and don't buy Sorrento

ehh, i didn't make nearly as much as you think. i sold puts, so i basically got $2-300 per lot. i figured it was an easy cheap few hundred, but i also figured i'd have to hold til friday. *shrug*

if i was holding shares, i would have probably sold them pre-market, anyway. i actually have no idea what's going on with this company/stock (aside from guessing the ticker would make it a meme stock), so i was happy to take some quick profits and run.

i wouldn't recommend naked puts unless you're either filthy rich or very experienced and underleveraged.

edit: or almost broke, i guess. haha.

Only touch stocks that you are willing to own at a certain price, high dividend paying stocks. I.e Pfizer

yup. you and me, both. but again, i would have sold pre-market, anyway.

i probably shouldn't have bought the puts back, but when they devalued by about 90% in appx an hour of cumulative market time... might end up selling more puts later. it's (likely) coming down, but the iv is like 600%, so...
 
Held Nikola for three months now reaping the rewards. Will be waiting to sell probably in the next week. I mean the pump after the merger was obvious but the stock will trade down in the next few months.

DKNG has been another great stock as well. I do believe DKNG will do well in the future but Nikola is pure gambling until trucks are on the road.

I'd sell this very minute lol. It's up 20% after hrs. (but I'm dumb and sold Friday thinking the dip day was today)

I was thinking to sell maybe half my shares, take profit. No one actually knows where Nikola is going. People that are buying now have pure FOMO at this point!! This stock is crazy

It's absurd.
Their valuation is similar to major auto producers now.

I want to sell but I am thinking can it keep going any further!! I think it would be silly to not take profits. The only way is down now surely.
 
Hertz stock is a nice stock to short. I can see many being left with the paperbag lol

yeah, it's largely why i decided to change my strategy on it and sell puts - seemed safer and with rather hefty premium for what looked like 'free money.'

i'll be surprised if it's not down bigly tomorrow... but i'm surprised it kept rocketing upward after-hours, too, so...
 
We just picked up enough money to cover a semester of college for our kid. I'm not hatin' on that. Keep it coming baby! :D
 
Sorrento making a move in after hours, grab it while it's hot.

The airline premiums have been ludicrous recently.
