Makes sense.
Stipe can be a good gatekeeper at this point and Jones can test the waters and build some confidence or get sent back to lhw.

I don't see 'The PED premadonnna' taking on Francis straight off the bat that would be crazy stupid.
 
Jones versus Stipe is a much more fair fight. Jones has a decent chance of winning, but would probably still lose. However, Jones will definitely lose against Ngannou.

Plus the ufc need to stop playing musical chairs with their champions.
Give Ngannou a chance to have a few defences he is not a superstar yet but he can become one then we have a mega fight

Don't think it would now.. I think Jones has more chance of fighting Mike Tyson.

Stipe fighting Jones not for a title is ridiculous.. One is 1-1 with the Champ, the other just relinquished his belt to move up, would be a massive waste of time imo.
 
Jons not fighting anyone that’s not the champion and he’s not fighting anyone named Ngannou.

It’s crazy the amount of people dismissing Derek Lewis. Threads like these imply francis is going to reign for a long time, which historically hasn’t been the case for any hw champion. Francis didn’t lose to Derek due to wrestling. He lost because he fears Derek’s power. That fear isn’t going away and it earned Derek a victory already over Francis even with a back injury. Cyril is very fundamentally sound defensively and could pose some serious problems for Francis as well.

As far as Stipe goes and this hypothetical matchup, Jon beats Stipe if Stipe continues his incredible shrinking man approach againgst top Heavyweights. The smaller hw gets, the worse he performs. Stipe needs some legitimate time off after that knockout. Bulk back up and go back to what he does best.
 
Good idea beating by Stipe would be less painful than Ngannou

Jones is unproven at HW and his rep is based on beating Cormier at lhw.
It could also be a nice reitrment fight for Stipe if he loses.

Ngannou can defend a few times first and let the hype build for a Jones bout if he can get past Stipe which is a big if.
 
Jones v Ngannou would be such a huge build up.

Only one KO.
But agree that Stipe is now a gatekeeper level because he is turning 39 at this august. He is losing his power, speed, reflex very fast, we were able to see him getting worse every fight aginst Cormier. Stipe is the UFC HW GOAT but he was not able to win the time. He is old now, and unless he finds a way to reverse his age, he will keep deteriorating.

Jones vs Stipe is actually a very good fight offer for Stipe. He can get much money when compared to fighting HW contenders like BB, Volkov, and Gane. With much less risk of getting badly hurt.

Also good for Jones, IF he actually gonna fight at HW. Will be a good chance for him to get a taste of HW.

Cormier layed him out also and Struve back in the day. Those add up.

I agree it would be the perfect match now as he has nothing for Ngannou and age will take away more. Not everyone is Randy Couture. Even Derrick Lewis might be too much.

Jones also would be able to ease himself in I don't get people thinking he 'deserves' an instant shot when he has no resume at hw. Even hw Cornier might have been too much but we will never know.

I don't see where Jones is better than Miocic either

I just hope Stipe can get his last big payday with Jones. I believe Jones will win easily, about 95% probability of winning. Stipe is 39yrs old ffs. At any sport, 39 yrs old is way way too old. Almost everyone retire before 35 yrs old, even legendary players.

Just give him the red panty night and force him to retire. Stipe was one hell of a fighter.
 
Nobody has any interest in that fight. Jon Jones wins via decision 100 out of 100 times they fight.
