Media Stipe Tells Ariel He Has Been Firefighting Full Time for the Past Two and a Half Years

Jon Jones has been training with Gordon fucking Ryan and Stipe has been lifting weights during his down-time at the fire station and hitting pads in his basement while his wife yells at him lol. Stipe's getting finished on the ground. Only question is what round.
So they're both tussling with a Ryan, lol*.

But seriously. Stipe is spending plenty of time at his gym, too, with plenty of training partners. I doubt they're quite the likes of Gordan Ryan. But I'm not that overawed at Jon's celebrity training partners. It strikes me more as cameo-casting, yet another aspect of Jon's vanity and his wish to micromanage the "perfect" occasion. If he's too caught up with that it might go very badly for him. Especially since the word is that Stipe is almost impossible to submit.

*Ryan is Stipe's wife's first name, ICYDK.

I would have to dig into my old bookmarks to be sure of the details of his old schedule, but if memory serves he would work an average of two or three days a week when he was doing the two part-time stations. His full-time schedule is 24 hrs on, 48 hrs off, and Thursdays always off even if by according to that rotation he should have been working. So by my figuring he's working roughly the same amount of days.

The shifts are longer, yes; part-time shifts are 12 hrs and full-time are 24. But a firefighter isn't "working" every. single. moment. of a shift. There are things needing doing at the station, but after 3:30 pm the firefighters are simply on call. They're otherwise free to do whatever they want. They have a gym room on site, Stipe can do some of his own strength & conditioning work, hell a coach can go there and hit pads with him etc. They just have to drop stuff if/when a call comes in. And sleeping is part of that 24 hrs, too...again, if not interrupted by a call.

Is it easy to juggle it all? No. But it's doable, and Stipe has had a lot of practice doing it. The only stretch there would be a real issue was during his first year of the full-time job when he was a "probie" (on probation), without flexibility of schedule, and mandatorily working extra shifts to fill in for firefighters who were sick. It was during that he turned down a fight (we know that because he's mentioned it in a couple of interviews). I take that as evidence that if he didn't think he had the time to do justice to a fight camp, he wouldn't take the fight.

Like MMAcolyte said, Jon is training with the likes of Gordan Ryan, Gable Steveson and Joseph Parker and he's doing this full time.

Maybe Stipe is weightlifting at his job during his downtime. Maybe he is doing pad work with his trainer, I simply don't know. It's all speculation as far as I'm concerned. But what I do know is there are only so many hours in a day and you have only so much energy to expend at any given time. MMA is a legit cruel game. It requires your full undivided attention. In my opinion if he has to shift focus off MMA to do his regular job even for the slightest amount of time, he might be making a grave mistake here.

Yeah Stipe is one big question mark at this point. We'll find out saturday what's up.

I'd like to think he's been training for Jon for over a year now atleast. Since they were scheduled to fight over a year ago.
Stipe seems to take his fights seriously. Always shows up. Actually looked OKAY against Ngannou in the rematch. He rocked him before getting KOd and that fight might have gone different if he didn't think he was going to finish but Ngnannou's chin is too good and he's too dangerous for that. The fact that he's old and been out for 2.5 years is what gives me pause because I do believe he will show up the best he can with what he has left.

That's really smart, Jones has a known weakness against first responders.

We shall see. It's quite possible that Jon has learned some neat arcane trick from Gordan Ryan that will thoroughly surprise Stipe into being submitted. It's quite possible his work with Gable has polished his wrestling so smooth that Stipe cannot hold against it. It's quite possible that Jon's unremitting tape work has uncovered a hole in Stipe's game never exploited by Stipe's "plebian" partners, and he's masterminded the sure-to-succeed sequence—something like DC did for his initial win against Stipe.

It's also possible that none of these factors are even needed to let Jon triumph over Stipe.

But I am wary of assumptions that pretend to be some sort of unanswerable math. Free time >, ergo. Name + name + name, ergo. Just like MMA Math, it doesn't work that way. At least not enough to use as a tool.

And as to your opinion "if (Stipe) has to shift focus off MMA to do his regular job even for the slightest amount of time, he might be making a grave mistake here"... Stipe has often sworn that shifting his attentions the way he does is actually part of his success. They play against each other, keeping him grounded, keeping him fresh. For Stipe, being as monomaniacally focused on MMA as Jon is in training WOULD be the mistake.

Of course, THAT may be the crucial factor, simply the difference between their two natures. But that's something beyond the help or hindrance of work schedules and training partner identities.

On one hand it's respectable how Stipe has helped his community, but on another I wonder if he would've been more active if he focused on UFC 100%.

So best case scenario he worked 2 x 10 hours a week before camps. Plus a few calls.
And for fight camp he took a vacation and time off.

People aren’t still believing the “Stipe is a firefighter” hoax are they?

In case it wasn't already abundantly obvious he's just here for a pay day.

What's the track record for guys in title fights who already have 1 foot out the door?
It's not good but in this case they both do. It's pretty clear that he likes being a firefighter a lot better than a ufc fighter

The UFC put an ex fighter against roid cheater Jones instead of forcing him to fight an actual contender. Fucking disgraceful.

You're not a member of the Bryce Mitchell Flat Earth Society, are you?

Stipey has been firefighting full time and still training, while Jon has been drinking, freebasing and sandblasting prostitutes full time.
And finger blasting comedy fans' buttholes apparently.

I hope all his firemen co-workers get tickets to the event
They should walk him out to the cage in full fire suits

Stipe “The Extinguisher” Miocic
How's his pto going to be approved if they all come and don't cover for him?

Imagine if Stipe wins.
Part time 40+yr old fighter.

I'd LOVE that.
Sherdog would implode as Sherbros choke on Jones's pubes.

You think pro fighters are training 8 hours a day, 7 days a week and every day of camp? No. Especially as they start getting into their 30's.
