This was in a pre-title-fight TV interview. He said his weight doesn't change much. He weighed in at 241 lbs against Werdum. He likes beer, but he rarely tops 250 lbs between fights. During training camps he doesn't drink (much). Once he was injured and had been drinking; then he hit 255 lbs.

So there's part of the explanation for his cardio, about 2nd best in the HW div. He doesn't cut weight.

[Stipe likes coffee, beer and pizza. He's a big Cleveland Brown fan and says he often does tail-gating parties.]

You hear that Cain. Tough love because i'm a cain fan. stipe sets a good example.

So did Forrest Griffin

Was I the only one who noticed that even though Stipe actually weighed in 1 pound heavier than Werdum, he looked like he weighed 7 or 8 pounds less. That dense muscle makes for some hard punches.

I think he has more bone density. His bone structure/frame is huge. Not to mention that head of his.

Sounds about right. I think 240-ish is pretty much optimum weight for a heavyweight. You're a little undersized if you're 225-230 and then having the extra size at 255 or higher takes its toll in the form of reduced cardio. I agree with the poster who said Stipe probably has the second best cardio in the weight class.

I dont think many heavyweights cut weight. Your theory about stipes cardio is wrong otherwise all heavyweights would have fantastic cardio (which they dont).

Fighters who normally walk around at 220-230lbs usually fight at 205. 220-230lbs is rather small for a HW in the UFC which is why I wonder guys like Crocop and Pat Barry never went down a weight class.

all the good 240+ naturals are in the NFL and NBA. look at JJ watt or even jon jones brother chandler jones as examples.

Barry definitely would've been well served to move down to light heavyweight, given his height and reach. It would've been very interesting to see Cro Cop drop to 205 earlier in his career when he was so fast and explosive. He already proved he could beat (and later outright tool) Wanderlei Silva, so it would've been interesting to see him fight guys like Rampage, Shogun, Liddell, etc.

You're right, Struve would be much better off at 240.

CC in the 205 division would murder anyone if his cardio wouldn't let him down. In the early part of his career he was like 220, a weight cut to 205 wouldn't be a big problem I think, but he was jacked at 220. Later in his career he was at 235-240, wouldn't have made it to 205 I think. Guess he didn't want to cut weight

I was sad to see Doom looking so fucking sloppy.

Chris Leben was a boozer yet competed against good guys in the UFC. I will assume that it is a 'You got it or not' kind of thing sewn within the DNA
