Stipe might still get the belt back

I said "there was a time" and you're listing off Henry Cejudo (who vacated his belts as double champion).

<JagsKiddingMe>

Try this again. Even someone like Matt Hughes had to win a fight to get a title shot after BJ choked him out.

It would have been ridiculous to think anyone who got KTFO and took two years off could waltz back into a title shot.

I said Cejudo was the most recent, not that he was the first or the only one.
Hughes is a good example, and would have been a good response to my initial query.

Stipe is a fragile old man at this point. He is done as a contender.

Yes, we agree that you have no point and have nothing of value to add. Henry is a terrible example.

Let me know if you think really hard and come up with something relevant.

I really like Stipe, and wish this was the case, but weight and muscle mass isn't going to be the issue keeping him from getting a belt. He's slowed down immensely and has appeared to show more and more affects of concussions.

He's now 40 years old and will have been out well over 2 years by the time he gets any fight.

What Stipe does have going for him is that HW isn't a very deep field, but Gane, Jones and Pavlovich I think all have an easy time with him.

If Stipe wins the belt and defends it a couple of times then he's up there in terms of status

I don't know about getting KTFO, but it's not hard to think of champions who got a title shot after a long layoff. Henry Cejudo is just the most recent example. Now, you could say he wasn't coming back from a loss, but he didn't rack up defences like Miocic did either. Few champions have, especially at HW.

Cejudo was Champ Champ with back to back wins over P4P ranked guys in TJ and Mighty Mouse and he'd won 4 consecutive title fights.

Stipe got smoked is 2-2 in his last 4, I don't think he should walk into another title shot after choosing to sit out for years.

Let him fight a hungry contender like Pavlovich or Aspinall.

Stipe already called out the winner of Jones/Gane. Apparently, Stipe has gained a considerable amount of muscle and will be coming back to fight after about a 2 year layoff and will likely be all healed up and be in great condition to fight. Stipe is a KO artist; therefore, there's a real chance he may KO whoever is the winner of the Jones/Gane fight.

Don't count Stipe out yet.

Did you see his last two fights? All he could do to broke back fat DC was hold him against the cage.
And he made Windmill Francis look like Ali.

"Brokeback" DC was a master of the clinch game, and Stipe finally dominated him in the clinch while weighing comfortably less than him: not an easy feat. And losing to Francis isn't exactly a rare occurrence, you know. The windmill ain't pretty but damn he makes it effective.

The cards are against Stipe, sure. Age and inactivity and more than a decade of relying on his chin instead of defense. But I still want to see what would happen. One of things I love most about MMA is that the sheer multiplicity of things that can legally be done in the cage means that the most improbable outcomes happen with surprising frequency. And damn, it would be cool if he could pull off a Couture.

He’s looked like a lesser version of himself for quite awhile now. With Gane, Jones, Aspinall, and Pavlovich around, another title run doesn’t seem likely.

God help us if Stipe won the belt again. Prepare for inactivity to continue. I honestly want to see someone young who fights often become champ, it's the only hope the division can move forward. HW has been cursed with the title being defended only once a year.

Jon will just stick his hand out and kick him over and over again, and Stipe will not reach him

Fine, but are you aware of Cormier's age during all of those fights ?

I've always thought Stipe would KO Jones

Stipe already got his free title shot vs DC. He doesn't deserve another one.

Idiot. Stipe was the best heavyweight in the world, when DC finger poked him in the eye, then click him right afterwards.

Stipe then came back, utterly destroyed DC, then beat him again the rubber match.

He was doing okay against Ngannou, wobbled Ngannou, then ran into a left hook.

It could literally happen to anyone facing a devastating puncher like that.

For you to write off Stipe proves you're an utter clown with no knowledge.

Well....there's no Tim Sylvia here for Stipe to pull a Couture.

This is quite the revisionist history lol.

Stipe’s performance in the 2nd fight was horrendous. I understand going against Ngannou is scary, but Stipe looked like a corpse in that fight.
